Veil vs Headpiece

I am doing a destination wedding in Jamaica and was totally against wearing a veil in fear that the breeze would cause it to blow all over the place. I was just going to wear a pretty headpiece. But when I tried on my dress with a veil, it completed the look.  Now I can't decide between the two.  And my dilemma is, if I get a veil I don't want to mask the details of the back of my dress, so should I do a plain veil and a headpiece, or a slightly decorated veil and call it a day. Thoughts?

Veils can and do blow all over the place.  This bride's veil blew right off of her head:

I get that you like the look of a veil with your dress but honestly it will blow all over the place unless amazingly there is absolutely zero wind the day of your wedding (which I seriously doubt since you are getting married in Jamaica and there is always breeze/wind around the water).  So if I were you I would get a rockin headpiece or a great birdcage and forget the traditional veil.

Have you ever seen the classic movie, "How Green Was My Valley?"  Maureen O'Hara's veil blew in the "wind" (which was carefully created by a timed series of fans) and it was one of the most beautiful things ever.  Get a plain, one layer veil and let it blow.

What about the getting the veil and the headpiece and if it's a really windy day skipping the veil? I know it seems like a possible waste of money, but if it's a nice calm day, you may be bummed you didn't take the chance. But if it's windy, you'll have a great headpiece you can just wear.

Sew (pretty) weights onto the bottom of the veil. Not kidding. Oh wow there's even a site that specializes in this. That should give you some ideas, anyway.

I know they sell little gems that are magnets so you can place them where you want on your veil to try to give it a bit more weight so it doesn't fly around. Might be worth a look and a test run.
