Re-thinking my dress :(

Has anyone out here ever had serious second thoughts about their dress?? Here I am, 5 months away from the wedding, dress is bought and first fitting is in just over a month...and I am really thinking that I didn't pick the right one!!! See, I didn't have any kind of moment when I saw it, I didn't sit there and say to myself "this is my dress". It was more of a "I feel really comfortable and this dress is really me" kind of feeling. Now I'm scared to death that its not the right one! Anyone out there experience this too??? Or is it just my super lack of self confidence taking over :(

  • Is there anything you can do to jazz it up or make it your own(so to speak)? accessories? I didn't have that moment either. And I even went dress shopping again and still didn't have that "moment". then my mother-in-law altered the totally 80's "jacket" it came with and when i put my necklace, earring, and my hair pieces in, i'm telling you! FABULOUS!!!

I only tried on one dress, but that's because originally my Mom was going to make my dress, but she was stressing out too much, so I let her off the hook. That was 9 weeks before my wedding, & I also had a very specific idea of what I wanted - plus size tea length lace dresses are hard to find off the rack, but I was able to get one. Its not exactly what I wanted, but its still really pretty, very comfy and very much me. I go in next week to pick it from from being hemmed & cleaned. (wedding is 24 day away!!)

You may be having second thoughts because your wedding is 5 months away and so it will be awhile before you put it on again. I would suggest that you STOP looking at dress pictures and start thinking about ways to make it your own, like @footballwife77 said. :)

  • I never had a wow moment... I bought my dress because I loved the magazine picture.  The store sample was alittle too tight, and my dress was fitted for the bust so it came in just a tad to big.  My mom started crying when she first saw the dress, I think I kind of went with that.  I was always like, this is good I can do this.

Now that I've just had my last fitting the dressing is AMAZING.  I'm so in love.  Once it was alterred perfectly and alittle touch was added plus my jewelry.  It was PERFECT!!!

Give yourself time you'll be ok...  The best line you had was "I feel really comfortable and this dress is really me". That's what you want in a dress.

You're in the Milwaukee area right?  It sounds like you have a fitting already scheduled.  Let me know if you need help with a fitting or a bra specialist.  My seamstress and my bra specialist changed the entire way the dress worked for me now.  I've never been so comfortable in a dress before!

i know that most women don't wear the right size, but i had no idea there was such a thing as a bra specialist!

I didn't either, my seamstress sent me to her.  She is amazing.  She wont sell you a single bra without fitting you in it first.  Even between manufacturers Bra sizes differ.  I realized this but didn't think it made that much of a difference.  I ended up buying three different bras from her in three different sizes :)
  • I worked as a bra specialist at Lane Bryant during college.  Its amazing the difference the right bra can make.  Change happens even in different styles of bras made by the same manufacturer.  I am a different size from Lane Bryant depending upon the style.  It always annoyed me when people would say that the Fashion Bug bras fit the same way.  They didn't.  There is so much you need to think about when it comes to bras!

  • @muenginerd - Thank you for all your kind words. I did go this past friday with 2 of my bridesmaids and try the dress on again and I do like it. I think it's because I cant picture it all together. I'm having a bolero jacket custom made because I feel more comfortable covering my arms and that hasnt even begun yet so I think once I can get it all and start seeing the finished product, I will probably feel better. Yes I am from the milwaukee area...where did you go?
