Election day is here!

I'm really hoping that enough people are fed up with the current leadership to vote them out of office. I don't even really care who wins so long as it's not them. Of course, FI says if they're voted back in AND get a supermajority (which would allow them to pass laws and make changes to the constitution without those laws and changes first going through parliament) we're moving the wedding up, selling everything, and moving to the US. I don't think that's likely though. People are pretty fed up with our current leadership.

Rush hour last night, they had several police vehicles block off the side streets so they could have a parade down the main street. At 5.30pm. When people are trying to get home and feed their families. No warning so people could plan, just BAM! parade! Great use of resources, right?

Anyway, before we vote, FI and I have a photo shoot. It's not really an engagement shoot seeing as we're now closer to the wedding than we are to the engagement, but it kinda is too. When we moved I realized that we only have one photo of the two of us together, from the film premiere we went to last year. FI's gran definitely won't be coming to the wedding 'cause international travel is hard on old people, so we want to have some nice pictures to send with the invite.

Of course, now that I have a photo shoot in an hour, my hair has decided that frizz is the new smooth. Bleh!

Wish us luck!

  • People here aren't much happier with our leadership. ;) Good luck!

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Good luck with the election!

I hope that the DA can make some inroads, the ANC's economic policies in particular have always made me a bit nervous. I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if the ANC didn't get a majority, but hopefully not a supermajority.
  • Good luck with the election! But the state of the US government isn't better, you might be better off in Canada.

Oh, and you better AW your photo shoot!

  • @Simky906 The ANC had about 60% in the last opinion poll done late last year. If nothing has changed since then, they would have a constitutional majority, as they do currently, but not a supermajority. Everyone is very nervous, and I seriously doubt that we'll get the ANC out nationally, but we're hoping that we can at least get the Free State under DA or VF+. If Rampele hadn't withdrawn her candidacy from the DA, we might actually have had a chance...

@lalalaurita I know that the US government is far from perfect, but at least they don't spend billions building the president a luxurious secure compound for his families (yes, plural) while 2/3 of the country live in poverty with no access to basic amenities. The president lied to the people,  saying he got a building loan to finance it, then turned around later and said that he didn't ask for it so he shouldn't have to pay.

Hospitals are shutting down for lack of funding, schools are being burnt because the students are sick of not being taught (thanks to teachers who barely understand their own subjects, textbook shipments mysteriously disappearing, and a DoE which seems to think tea-ladies should earn more than teachers), and road-users are being taxed to death for "highway upgrades" that consisted of building the gantries upon which the system for taxing road-users is perched... and while this is going on, the MPs live in fully-staffed mansions, drive new cars every month, and command the use of police resources anytime they need to pop out for milk and ciggies.

Anyway, FI has US-ZA dual citizenship, and family in at least 3 states, so the US would be the easiest place for us to go. At least to begin with.
