Tux Rentals

When did/are you all going to order your tux rentals? I know TK checklist says 4-5 mos out. I am not sure if I should follow this or not. We are wanting to go through Men's Warehouse for this. FI has groomsmen all over the country, so we were thinking it might be nice for them to know in advance to prepare/save up for the rentals. Thoughts?

Re: Tux Rentals

  • You can look and pick out the tux at any time.  Just make sure you get budgets from all the guys before you pick a tux and then pick a tux that fits within the lowest budget.  We went through MW and I think the latest that the guys had to place their orders was 2 weeks before the wedding.  I can't tell you when we started the group at MW though.  It may have been in April and we got married in July.  But I am not sure.

  • We went through MW. Our wedding is next week and we went in to pick the tuxes in the middle of March. My RB just got measured two weeks ago and it was still fine. We were even dealing with prom and graduation this time of year and we still didn't have a problem.

  • We booked our tuxes through Men's Warehouse in March, and our wedding is August 23.  But they were running a special in my area that we wanted to take advantage of.  No one is going to get measured until July though, and they have until August 5.  Fittings will be Thursday before the wedding.
  • Thanks, all! I am thinking I might just go ahead and schedule an appointment to at least look.

  •  We went to Moores for the tux rentals, and I believe we had the account set up 6-8ish months prior to the wedding. We had signed up with Moores at a wedding show we went to. So, when we went into the store, as long as we had a minimum of 5 suits rented, the grooms was free. (Which was awesome)! The guys all agreed on a specific suit there, and each of their names were on an account under my H's name. H set up the account 6-8 months prior, and then his guys just had to go in whenever they had time, to get fitted. Their name's were already in the computer under my H's group, so it was super easy! The account was accessible from any Moores store, country wide, so that was also a "pro" too, as some of his guys weren't local. I think they all had to have their measurements in by like 4 weeks before our wedding, and could pick them up 3 days prior, and then had to return them the day after. I recommend having them pick up their suit a few days before, just to make sure the measurements are correct. This way they can get the correct size, if for whatever reason something isn't fitting right.

I don't see anything wrong with browsing now, and possibly setting up an account somewhere, once they've agreed on a suit. We had our account set up pretty early, and some of the guys still went in like 6 weeks before the wedding, vs early. It didn't really matter when they went in, as long as it was before the 4 week mark. This gave them lots of time, from the time we set it up, to get down there.

     Good luck!

  • Follow up question: Did you all go with your SO tux shopping? I was talking to FI a couple of minutes ago and he said that he wants his BM and me to come with him. I just assumed it would be FI and BM...I don't mind going at all. I just found it odd.

  • We found a local chain that offered a better deal than MW or DB, so that's where we ended up.

FMIL and I went along with most of the boys to pick out the tux and get measured. I think FI wanted us to go with because he was slightly clueless. I went along but tried to only hold absolute veto power and let the boys pick what they wanted.

  • H and I went together.  He installs HVAC systems for his career and only ever gets dressed up for weddings (suit and tie).  He has worn a tux a handful of times and each time that he has needed one I either went with him or his Mom.  He had no idea what he was looking for or what would look good so me going with him wasn't even a question.

  • We went I think June for our November wedding. This way the price was locked in and the guys had plenty of time to save up but they didn't go in for sizes until October to make sure the sizes they got were the most accurate sizes.
  • FI and I went together to pick out tuxes, but he picked it out on his own. He just wanted me to go to make sure he wasn't getting the wrong color shirt or tie or anything. LOL I told him whatever he wanted was fine, but I'm glad I went with him because the guy tried to talk him into an ivory shirt and I was able to nix that. The guy might have been able to talk FI into that one.

  •  I went with my H, as well as his BM. They picked the suit, & I basically just okay'd that it looked good. They basically just wanted to make sure that certain colours of tie, vest, etc, (that we were coordinating with other things), were the correct colours, and went with the suit they chose.

  • I went with my FI. Cuz we're a team!

  • My FI and I went together.  He wanted my opinion and none of his family or groomsman are local, so it was me or no one.  Since he doesn't own a suit and has never worn a tux, he wanted me to give him an idea if he was on the right track or not.  Plus, he kept joking about getting a powder blue or orange tux, so someone had to watch him, haha.
  • We hit up MW first, but I didn't like the tie/vest options.  I ended up using a local tuxedo place (keeping it local is always good!), and was tickled with their options of tuxes and color swatches.

The men had to go in 1.5 weeks prior to the wedding to be measured, and they picked up their tuxes on Friday, the day before the wedding.

My sister and I went and looked at tuxes to get ideas, then when we went in to do measurements for DH, DS, SS and my father, we did the final tux selection and color selections.

The upside was that because the tux store was so busy when we went in to pick up the tuxes, and because we were so patient, the store owner took us to the back after things died down, and gave DH and I a few celebratory shots of Crown and beer to start off our wedding weekend.  That was DH's favorite part about getting his tux.  ;)
  • @acolotti012, are you able to forward those coupons to the GMs?

@acolotti012, is the deposit paid by the guys or by you and your FI?

ETA: So the coupons can go toward the deposit?

The groom has to put a $40 deposit down on his tux to place the order. When the GM go in they will also need to put down a $40 deposit to order their tux. They take the $40 off the price before they do the order so no you can't use the $40 coupon as your deposit.
