anybody have any idea what the average cost of a good makeup artist is? (I am in Boston)

Re: average cost of wedding makeup

  • You might want to ask on your local page. Or the attire page?

  • I would say anywhere between $75-150 depending on whether you choose to do fake eyelashes, airbrush, etc.

  • I live in NJ which should have similar make-up pricing.  The average is around $100.  I was able to get mine down to $85 (my venue is a hotel and they have a spa, the artist will just come to my room) by doing so research.  If the make-up artist needs to travel to the location you should definitely expect it to be $100.

  • Mine is $120 and it $60 for each bm
  • $125 - $175 depending on whether you want airbrushing.  But my girl also came to the house, so it's a little different.
  • Definitely depends on what you want... I'm getting mine done for $40 from my salon that is also doing my hair. We're getting everything done at the salon though.

  • I'm in Ohio and it's $35 for me (plus $25 for the trial run.) My bridesmaid from NYC was amazed at how low the costs are (for BM make up $25 and $40 for updos) so I'm guessing it's going to be higher in large cities on the East Coast.

  • I'm in Boston, and my makeup was $150, BMs were $75, but there were no travel fees and the woman was really wonderful. It felt like a "high end experience" and we all looked awesome. I don't think we're allowed to post referals so PM me if you'd like her contact info.
  • I used to freelance all over northern NJ/NYC. I typically charged $125 for the bride (plus a small surcharge if I had to travel over 1 hour), $75 for bridesmaids/MOB/MOG. Airbrush wasn't common back then, and I didn't do fake lashes. However, my fee included the trial (there was no fee at all if we did the trial and you didn't book with me), so YMMV.

  • I'm a makeup artist at a salon/spa just north of Boston and we charge $75 for day-of Bridal Makeup applications (more if you want us to come off-site to you)

Your quote sounds more like the one I got today--$25 for the full session and $10 trial. I'm jn the Rockies and was worried that was too low!

Mine is at the Aveda Salon near my house (also having my hair done there), so I'm pretty confident in their services.  But if a trial run is $10 and you don't like it, you've only wasted $10, which isn't bad at all in the grand scheme of things.

My MUA charged $100, or $110 with false eyelashes (in NYC).

Yeah that's pretty much what I figured. I'm not expecting miracles at that price anyway, but $10 is cheap for an experiment!
