NWR: has anyone ever died...

From writing papers?

I have a 6 page paper due today (I have 4 pages) in German, a 15 pager due on the 12th (I have 0 pages and an annotated bibliography) in film-jargon, and a 25 page paper in German (I've got maybe 20 pages in English) by May 18th. Then I have to study for my comprehensive exams on June 10th. I don't think I'm gonna make it, guys *cough* *cough*

Re: NWR: has anyone ever died...

  • I have a paper due at midnight on economic crime, have 4 more papers due before I graduate in less than a month, and I'm dicking around on TK. Yep, I feel ya.

  • That doesn't include all the grading I have to do! Ahhhhh!
  • I remember writing a 15-17 page paper on an oral interview I listened to from a woman in history and literally breaking down and feeling like I couldn't do it. I was convinced I would fail the class because it took me a week to even figure out how to connect the paper together. Ugh. I don't miss it!

Are you going to grad school? Or are you in grad school? It only gets "better" and "better", haha.

  • Rifling through all those papers could give you a lot of paper cuts...one might get infected!
  • My last semester of college I somehow managed to have all my writing classes. I thought I was not going to make it! I had a 10+ paper due practically every week, some having large papers in multiple classes. I counted 60 papers that semester when all was said and done. Just keep looking at the end in mind. The happiest day was when I knew it was the last paper I ever had to write--EVER. You will make it.

  • @Couggal12 I am finishing up my 2nd Master's. Somehow I did this once before...and eventually I'll probably go for my PhD.

@erinlin25 I'm definitely taking a nice long break...but the end? This will never end. Wah!

Just a note of caution from someone who was born into academia and will probably die there: if you can do something else, please don't stay in school!

Something is seriously wrong with you.

    ;)
  • @Jennycolada I know, right? I'm totally crazypants!
  • Smartypants, crazypants, sexypants.

You sure have a big wardrobe @blergbot!
  • @Blergbot, I just completed my 2nd semester of my Master's in Legal Studies. It's been hell lol. I can't even imagine a second one! I give you mad props.

Ugh, yeah you're nuts. One masters is enough for me. Thesis done = no motivation to ever care about school again.

The night before last, I spent 11.5 hours in the computer lab editing video for final projects. 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.  Then, I went home, was going to sleep for a long time, but H called me at 10:30 (he was out of town).  So I ended up leaving about noon to go finish the project. So I was then in the lab editing from noon to 5:30 p.m.  Finally got it all done.

I am so over this semester.  However, I have one last editing project to get done, so I'll be in the lab for another 9-10 hours tonight.  It'll take me that long, easy.

    I feel your pain.

Four days until I graduate, I am so ready!
  • @PDKH I'm definitely questioning right now. Luckily FI has a great job, so we're stuck in our current city (with no good PhD prospects for me) for a few years. I've got awhile to change my mind...
  • @lovesclimbing Good Luck! You're almost there!

This times a bazillion!! My brain went on strike after my MS. You, dear Blergbot, are a glutton for punishment ;)

  • @Niccirf Indeed. I said I was done with school forever after the first one, but...just when I think I'm out they pull me back in!

I did develop tendonitis in my right (dominate) wrist in college.  I had to type all my papers at night so the inflammation would go down while I slept.  If I typed in the morning I couldn't use my hand the rest of the day.

  • I get arthritis flares in my knuckles, so I have to take frequent brakes. Also, my back sucks. I also have a pinched nerve in my hip, so sitting for long periods hurts pretty bad...So yeah, frequent breaks!
  • Argh Blergbot I have totally been there!  It sucks.  I also have joint problems and can't type for long periods of time.  Can't hold a pen for more than five or ten minutes of writing.  I got Dragon Dictation software and it's not perfect, but it at least gives me a good start and I can correct/format from there.  It really helps.

  • @jcbride2015 I've tried that, but I have to write a lot in German. I wonder if they have a German version by now.

Ah, got ya.  I wonder if there are international versions now.  At least it would be useful for the English stuff.
