Wedding Invitations & Paper

Re: -

  • You don't do it. At most you could let it spread via word of mouth but even then I'd hesitate, grown ups can dress themselves, children will have grown ups help them dress.
  • Don't do it. You're going to make your guests feel obligated no matter how you word it. And weddings aren't theme parties. Weddings are weddings.

It won't matter in the long run if everyone is wearing a touch of purple or whatever. Honestly, if they all do an I saw the photos I would think the bride was a control freak who told her guests what to wear. Embrace diversity of colors and styles!

    Hello,

I'm looking for creative ways to ask my wedding guest to incorporate our wedding colors in there attire. It no means is it mandatory just something to fun to add to the wedding. It could be a dress or a tie, or socks or something old in there closet. My wedding is small no bridesmaids. My friends and family are used to having theme parties so I know they would love this idea. How to word on the invite? Do i add it on the insert card or the actual invite.

    Don't. Your guests aren't props.
  • No. Just no. As PPs have stated, this is really silly. These are your beloved friends and family, not Pinterest props. Please do not. That is all.
  • I think this is a terrible idea.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • This is so rude!  Don't do it.  You will insult people.

You don't. fyi, DH and I were Invited to a wedding with a 'suggested dress code' and we declined in part because of that. I am an adult. I can dress myself.

You don't.  The only people whom you can tell to wear a specific color are your wedding party members.  Nobody else.

Just no.  It's super inappropriate and rude to say anything to your guests about how they should dress.

  • *their attire

    Also, is this a joke?
  • Dictating what a guest wears on any level is extremely rude

WOW!!! The only thing rude are your responses!!!  Last time I checked there wasn't a right or wrong way to have a wedding.

FIRST READ my post. My wedding is small. My family and friends are used to having theme parties. They are very open minded people. I wanted to add something FUN to the wedding!! Just FUN not controlling by any means or using anyone as props!

I was just looking for a creative way to add to the invite.

No one was being rude. You asked for opinions and then didn't hear what you wanted. Telling guests how to dress at a wedding is rude.

  • Are you seriously saying that you have never heard of etiquette?  I think this is a first!

There is always a wrong way when you're talking about how you treat your honored guests.  This isn't touchy feeling 'everybody gets a ribbon', nobody's wrong bullshit.  There absolutely is a right way and a wrong way to treat people.

  • I guess I don't even see what's "fun" about everyone wearing the wedding colors.

OK. Back up a sec. Exactly whom do you think this is fun for?
It's fun for you. You get the theme and the photos and the satisfaction of turning your wedding into a costume party.
It's not necessarily fun for your guests, though. It's a wedding, not Halloween. Who wants to feel like the odd man out at a costume party? Of course people will feel pressured to comply. They might not want to spend money on new clothes or spend hours getting their themed outfits just right. But they'll probably suck it up and do it, because they love you. Question is whether you want to put that extra pressure and potential expense on your guests.
