Foie gras is made by pretty much force feeding ducks or geese corn. I did a class on animal welfare for my critical writing course (I was an animal science major) and I'm fuzzy on it but I'm pretty sure it is pretty awful. Bernard Rollin's book called Animal Husbandry is a really good, unbiased resource on that kind of stuff. He explains different practices and looks at studies to determine how bad they really are. It is possible to make foie gras without force feeding but obviously get more extreme results by doing so.

Interestingly enough taste tests show that veal tastes just as good whether the animals are allowed to be active or not. The only difference it makes is the prized white color.

My fave place that I've eaten in Vegas was Wicked Spoon, the buffet at the Cosmopolitan.  It's $50-60 per person, but we upgraded to unlimited house wine.  But I love going to buffets in Vegas, it's the only time I go, and this one was super up scale.

If you guys are burger and jeans people, there's a great burger place called I <3 Burger, I think it's at Planet Hollywood.
  • This is my fave spot: http://www.battistaslasvegas.com/

Make a reservation, but it's an "all inclusive" menu including unlimited wine. The food is amazing and it's a good deal!
  • I just love really really good food. I don't care if it's at a high end fancy restaurant or at the hole in the wall in the bad part of town. If it has potential to be some of the best food I've ever had, I'll go there. I really don't care.

I do like dressing up and going out and having the super attentive service aspect of the high end places.  But fantastic barbecued ribs eaten off a paper tray on a table covered with newspapers and a roll of paper towels on the table is no less fantastic due to the atmosphere. And it's super fun.
