Centerpieces ideas for a couple that doesn't really like centerpieces

Hi! My fiancé and I are marrying on June 21st 2014. Everything is going great other than centerpieces. We have no idea what to do because neither of us really like centerpieces. I feel like cut flowers are usually a waste of money. Does anyone have any ideas ? Preferably budget friendly diy and/or outside of the box. Our wedding colors are aqua/teal and purple. We do not have an actual theme. Thank you!

  • How about no centerpieces.

Can you have open flames (like candles) at your venue? is it inside or outside? Are there any sorts of common interests that you and your FI are trying to incorporate into your wedding? Need a bit more info to help...

Edited a bit because I apparently can't read properly today. lol

Centerpieces are not required, so no centerpieces is definitely an option.  Otherwise, some ideas might be:
    - fruit in jars
    - books
    - candles (depending on your venue) floating in water, in lanterns, a various size pillars
    - dessert
    - bottles of wine
    - potted plants
    - photos

If you really want centerpieces, and you have some ideas about what you'd like, I'd make an exception to my Pinterest-is-not-for-weddings stance and go there (or to Google Images) and do a quick search for some design that stands out to you.

ETA: plants, because potted plans might look weird

  • We had vintage looking lanterns. (we surrounded them by flowers--but not a requirement or anything). We then sold them after the wedding, so we really didn't lose any money
  • If you don't like centrepieces, don't feel that you HAVE to have them. Maybe spend the money on some nice coloured linens and/or an overlay. You can get away with busier tablecloths/ lace/ bold colours if you are having small or no centrepieces.
