Invitations- How long to RSVP?

Hi! Im getting married Sep 13th, 2014, I dated my invitations with a RSVP date of July 15th ( around 8 weeks before the wedding). Im just curious when I should send the invitations out and how long I should give people to RSVP? Thanks!

Okay, that is WAY too early.

You should be sending your invites OUT at the 8 week mark, not have the RSVP at the 8 week mark.

When does your venue need a final headcount.  Whatever that date is add 5-7 days and that is your RSVP date.

  • My wedding Coordinator told me the rsvp should be 8 weeks before, because I have such a large wedding

Your wedding coordinator is an idiot.  You do not need a RSVP date 2 months before your wedding.  I wonder when she told you to send the invites?  Just because you have a large wedding does not mean you extend the RSVP date.

Your invites go out 6-8 weeks before your wedding the RSVP date is about a week before you need a final headcount to allow you time to call up any guests who have not responded.

  • Our wedding is October 25th. Our venue needs a final headcount 5 days prior so I made our RSVP deadline October 10th. You really only need a week to follow-up with anyone who didn't RSVP.

  • Your wedding size has absolutely nothing to do with your RSVP date.  Your RSVP date should, ideally, be no more than 2-3 weeks from the wedding.

  • Agree with PPs. Our wedding was Oct. 13 and our RSVP date was Sept. 25 -- 18 days before the wedding and 16 days before the venue needed a final head count.

Your wedding coordinator is a moron. An RSVP date that early means people are more likely to RSVP 'no' because they won't know that far out if they can attend.

Mail then eight weeks outs and give people six weeks to respond.

I had to give a final head count 10 days before the wedding (which I JUST realized is TODAY!!) and had my rsvp date I week prior.  I'm glad I gave myself those extra days because there where some late responses and a couple people I had to track down for meal choices.
  • Our wedding is Sept 6. Our RSVP date is Aug 18. Our venue would like the head count 7-10 days prior to the reception, so our date is about 1.5 weeks prior to that. We plan on sending them out the week of July 7th, about 8 weeks prior. Most of our guests will be coming from OOT, but they've known our wedding date and locations since January. I know for recent invites we've received, I haven't sent the RSVP card back until the last possible moment; I'd never know if I could go earlier than about 2 weeks before because of my work schedule.

Honestly though, we are planning on having the RSVP date August 8 mostly because 1/2 our invites are from Poland.

  • @aliciamele I am getting married Sept 14 and we are sending them out the 2nd to last week in July and we are putting Aug 14th as the RSVP date!

    Hope this helps!

  • I agree with PPs. 8 weeks ahead for the RSVP is crazy-long.

Have your invitations been printed yet? Call now to stop the RSVP cards or have them reprinted. Your RSVP date should be about a week before your final headcount is due.

If your final headcount is due 8 weeks before, this broad is BSC and I would argue that. Typical final numbers are due anywhere from 3 days to two weeks before.
