WR- Music Help

Ah it's less than a month away.  We met with our DJ the other day and we had trouble coming up with a song for the Anniversary dance ( we are not doing a bouquet and garter toss), last night he emailed us suggestions and I didn't like most of them.  Any suggestions on a song about 3:30 for the anniversary dance? I wanted to use Young at Heart, but the song is pretty short.  Any suggestions or ideas are awesome.

Also the DJ sent us the song for our first dance and it was the wrong version, I told him the version we wanted and now I'm undecided about the song a bit as our second choice is also really great & different.  Our first dance song as of now is All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera, our second choice was As Long As You're Mine from Wicked, now I'm not sure which I like better. arghhhh Any thoughts?

For the anniversary dance what kind of music are you looking for? I would think you could do something big band-ish or 50's-60's depending on how long the longest married couple will be that attends (does this make sense, words are hard this morning).

  • @Buddysmom80 we didn't have anything too particular in mind really which is why we're having trouble picking out a song.  We were kind of open to anything romantic, time period doesn't matter.

  • @Peaseblossom55, is there any type of music that means something to your family? If FI and I were to do an anniversary dance, I would want a swing song because one of my sets of grandparents met while swing dancing.

  • @blackbird230 Nothing as far as I know in terms of genre, the people who win will probably be FI's parents.  Hopefully FI & I will have more time to talk about it tonight.

@buddysmom80 I love Frank! I wanted to use Young at Heart but it's too short of a song.....

  • I love Frank too.  NY, NY duh (cause that's so romantic, right?!)

As Long As You're Mine would be awesome, but it always sounded somewhat...crazed to me.  I mean she's kinda freaking out at that point in the musical :)  H is adamantly opposed to musicals, which is basically all I listen to, so we couldn't have an awesome musical song in our wedding haha
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @Blue & White 99% of the music on my ipod is showtunes, As Long As You're Mine was actually FI's suggestion not mine.  I just think I liked that he suggested it more than the song itself, either way it will get played at the reception.  Do you have a favorite musical?

How long does the song need to be?

Everybody Loves Somebody sung by either Frank Sintara or Dean Martin runs about 3:40. It's really romantic and sweet.

  • I can't remember who sings this, I think it's Tim McGraw ( I don't know how you feel about Country) but it's the Song, "It's Your Love". It's super slow and romantic! I love it!
  • I was going to suggest 'Can't Help Falling In Love With You' by Elvis, but it might be short.

  • @peaseblossom55 Fave musical?!  That's hard, but I'll try.  I would say Mamma Mia, haha - go figure I pick a wedding one...I also love love love Wicked and RENT and could seriously just listen to them all day long.  I also love Chicago and Lion King in person and actually thought The Grinch and Shrek were really cute.  Mary Poppins was eh.  Phantom was my first so it always holds a special place in my heart.  I usually take new-to-musical people to Phantom or Chicago because anyone can appreciate them.

This is actually probably why it's semi-good I don't live up by you...I would be musical-broke.

  • @dignity100 I love that song and FI's mom loves Elvis so that might be a really good choice, most of the songs the DJ suggested were around the 3:30 mark so I need to see if it's about that length when I get home.

@Blue & White I don't go to see too much on Broadway, FI & I really want to see Book of Mormon, tickets are so expensive and so hard to get too.  I go to see a lot locally which is fine and a lot better on the wallet.  The theater I sit on the Board of Directors is doing Rent I saw it two weeks ago, it was pretty good.  I'm also not a big Rent fan either....
