A little disappointed...

So FI and I have been looking online at the timeshare company for the location we want to take our honeymoon. I had posted previously that my mom is letting us use my parents' timeshare for our honeymoon. We are getting married December 27 and are leaving for the honeymoon the next day (Okay the word "honeymoon" is starting to look weird, I won't use it anymore).

We decided to go somewhere in Florida for a few reasons: 1. It is driveable from NC and we don't want to fly (too expensive for a holiday week) 2. The southern parts of Florida will be considerably warmer than the winter weather in NC 3. New Orleans and Nashville were booked completely for that week 4. He said if we are less than 2 hours from Orlando then we can go to Universal Studios and he will take me to Harry Potter World (he LOATHES Harry Potter).

Well, we found a resort that was PERFECT! I had been looking for a week or so and we finally decided that yes, that was it. It was in Cape Canaveral and it was beautiful. Last night my mom called to book it through the timeshare company and they tell her it isn't available, what? I told her that I was online that second and it said it was. Turns out there is a glitch in the system that won't let them take that property down...bummer. So back to square one.

No question really, just venting and feeling slightly disappointed because we had gotten our hopes up over it. Unless you have any suggestions of locations. Thanks!

  • Well balls. That sucks. I've got no suggestions, but I will give you wine!

Ugh that is a bummer!  Best of luck finding a new place!

When we were checking out honeymoon places, FI's parents offered us exchange points through their timeshare, we just have to pay the all-inclusive fees.  We found an absolutely perfect place to go, got really excited, and asked them to book it.  Well, we found out there was only one flight into Antigua that day, and it was at 6am (the day after our wedding), and we didn't want to risk it.  We did some more research and found a new perfect place, in Punta Cana, and our flight is at around 10am so we will be much better off.  Also, there are other flights throughout the day, just in case.

So hopefully you'll find your new perfect place!  And I hope it still involves you going to Harry Potter World.

@KPBM89 We looked at places in the Caribean and they are beautiful and such a good deal! It's just the flight prices would be around $2,000 round trip that week since it is still peak holiday time. We decided to stay in the states and drive and use that extra money for our caterer.

I'm having decent luck finding other places in FL, we just had our hearts set on that one. I just love HP and will use any excuse to go back to HPW :)

Oh yeah flight prices are insane.  Ours were just under $1000 per person round trip, but FI's mom used her miles to order them for us, thankfully.

I wanna go to Harry Potter World so bad.  I told FI that once we're married and don't have to save for the wedding/ honeymoon anymore, before we have kids, we need to go on a trip down to Universal and Disney.

  • Total bummer. I'm sorry! Here's a puppy gif.

  • Sorry that happened! Hope you find another great option soon. Either way I am sure it will be an amazing vacation! On another note...How in the world can you marry a man who loathes Harry Potter? That would be a deal breaker for this book worm. :)

YOU SHOULD! I had never been to Disney or Universal until two summers ago. I went with my BFF and her parents and we had a blast. I'm so glad we went while we were in college and still had free time. FI really doesn't like amusement parks or rides and hates crowds. He said he will go once we have kids so they can experience it. I'm hoping we can go with another family so he won't hate it too bad! HAH!

@SapphireCounselor I know! Gosh, he's lucky he has other redeeming qualities. :)

I mean I just felt like I had to impress upon you the gravity of this situation. :) Actually I can understand ppl saying they aren't fans of Harry the character. He definitely has his moody teen moments that are annoying.

I really think that is it for him. Whenever I make FI watch it with me (and he has actually read the books as well) he is always lie: "Man, he's such a whiny bitch."

Plus, he gets points for watching HP with me and offering to go the HPW for me :)

He definitely gets points! Very sweet! I would be obsessed with Harry Potter world too if I lived anywhere near it.

  • That sucks. Look at it this way, it could simply mean that there is somewhere better for you two to stay.
  • @jdluvr06 You're completely right. And there is actually a place I just found that is awesome. Now, to run it by FI.

  • WE BOOKED OUR HONEYMOON THIS WEEKEND! Sorry for the all caps but I'm just so darn excited! We're going to Pompano Beach, FL which is near Ft. Lauderdale and Miami Beach. Orlando is a little less than a 3 hour drive so FI says we can probably still go to Universal! And we can make a day trip to Key Largo. So much better than our original preference :)

  • YAY for booking your trip!!!  Hopefully you can still go to Universal.  So glad you found something that works for you.

I really would love to go to Harry Potter Land too - but I've never made it out of Disney property the few times I've been to Orlando.

  • @Dignity100 When I went to Orlando we took a 10 day trip and spent 5 at Disney and 3 at Universal. It was really nice to have the time to do that.

  • @eg72 - I'm SO jealous!!  I cannot take long vacations at the moment.  FI took a new job and only gets 10 vacation days and I have dogs that I feel guilty leaving and asking my family to watch.

FI and I will be at Disney for our wedding/honeymoon, but we're still only staying 7 days; the first 2 days will probably be wedding prep and day 3 is the wedding.  I thought about trying to take an extended weekend to go look at our venue and take a day to go to Universal, but I don't think it's in the budget before the wedding.

Taking time off work is tricky for me. I have timed it perfectly that I will have enough vacation days. When I went to Orlando a couple years ago (I was still in college and went with my BFF and her parents), I didn't have to worry about that.

I loved Disney, but something about Universal was more fun. I think it was the rides. But I could never spend more time at Universal because Disney has so much more to do.
