Wedding ring Question!

Please help - I have a unique e ring and don't know what to do about a wedding band.

My FI wants me to get some kind of wedding band because he is so traditional. I don't really care and it seems like a lot of work to find one that would work with my ring.

Any advice would be appreciated !

Re: Wedding ring Question!

  • First off, that is an incredible ring! Absolutely gorgeous.

I would go to a jeweler and ask what they suggest. There are lots of options available--bands that curve around the outside of your stone, bands that tuck under, or ring wraps. The picture doesn't show the ring from the side so I can't tell how much space there is under the diamonds, but you could probably get a thin, simple band that would tuck under them.

  • Thank you, you are so kind!

I like your idea of a simple band... then it wouldn't take away from the e-ring.

    Thanks! TGIF!

  • I also have unique ring.  Its pretty wide.  I just wear my grandmother's wedding band.  It pretty thin and the e-ring pretty much sits on top of it.  Most people can't even see the band.

I also got another wedding band (diamond half-eternity) at DH's insistence. that I wear on my right hand.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Ditto @inkdancer ...  I would get a thin band that will fit under the ring.  It is a beautiful ring and reminds me of a snowflake.  :)

  • ohhh I like the right hand idea!
  • Your ring is SO gorgeous!

I have a unique wrap-around style engagement ring, and I was worried about the same thing. I absolutely love my ring and wouldn't think of changing it, which my FI said was an option because I wanted to also have a traditional wedding band.

Solution: Went to Robbins Brothers, where they looked at the ring, took some measurements, and made a customized mold. After we approved the design and diamond sizes, they cut out little slots in the engagement ring (not noticeable) so the band would link to the engagement ring and have a better fit. Our designer was soooo nice and helpful. Of course it was pricey (about $2k - it had several diamonds), but it beat buying a whole new set.

If Robbins Brothers isn't an option, I'm sure any other jeweler could work with you though like Inkdancer said. It just depends on your ring. :-)
  • I plan to wear my engagement ring on my right hand and we just bought a "non-traditional" wedding ring for my left hand.

  • I have a unique ring too. I will be wearing it on my right hand and will have a simple band for my left hand.
  • Duchess Kate has a simple gold band that fits under her setting. That could work for you if your setting is high enough.

  • Beautiful ring! I'd probably look for a simple 2 mm band that will fit under the stone if there's enough clearance. Otherwise you could do an arched band or have one made that fits around your stone.

Great advice already. I just want to add that if you don't care and it ends up being a lot of effort/money, then you don't need to bother with one. I get that your fiance wants you to have one, but this is kind of not his decision.

  • My ring is unique - it was one of my grandmother's favorite rings.  We took it to my jeweler and had them make a custom band to shadow it.  We were supposed to see/approve the mold before they cast the band, but they failed to call until it was complete.  All we told them was we wanted something that would complement it well - we didn't give them specific instructions.  When I finally saw the band, it was amazing!  They totally knocked it out of the park, and it was exactly what I had in mind.  The ring and band look like a true wedding set instead of two separate pieces. We couldn't be happier.

  • Try a Google image search for Kate Middleton's ring. (I'm on mobile or I'd do it for you.)

She has a very thin, flat band that sits right underneath the stone of her engagement ring. You can't really tell that it's there, but it is.

That's what I'd do -- find one that's small and thin and unobtrusive.

    Beautiful ring, btw!!
