What happened to the dress thread?

You know, the one that was posted during the crazy time of triple-posting and anonymous Love-Its. I just got my dresses back from being altered/cleaned and wanted to AW. Since the other thread must have gotten deleted when the duplicate threads were cleaned up, let's post them all again!

The long white one for the ceremony is still as little snug on top, but I will hopefully drop a couple pounds in the next 49 days. The long red one is for the tea ceremony/parent dances. And since there is no way to comfortably eat and dance in that dress, I have a a shorter white dress for the reception (I still have to add the cap sleeves for it to hide my bra straps). Sorry about the mess behind me, I need to clean my dressing room in a bad way.

  • I really like the detailing on the long dress and the colors of the tea ceremony one. I am also a sucker for the lace on the short one. Looks like the perfect trio to me!

So beautiful!! The detailing on the dress is gorgeous (love, love, love the buttons!), and the jacket compliments the dress very well. I might be a little jealous that it will be too hot at my wedding to wear a jacket like that.

  • @beethery‌ thanks. :) I was really lucky. It was a discontinued dress. I walked out with the sample for half price. Saving all that money made it all the sweeter.
  • @Cookie Pusher‌ and @sweetwisconsin‌ you're dresses are so pretty!

Thanks, ladies! I was pretty determined not to have a "traditional" dress as FI pictured me in (at my height, puffy princess dresses look ridiculous). I also realized that I had to fit 3 dresses into the budget of 1 dress. I found the ceremony dress on Ebay for $76 - can't really beat that. I love that it has simple embellishments to give the dress some shape even though the bottom is all flowy. I've known my seamstress for over 20 years (I graduated HS with her sons), so she gave me a crazy discount on alterations. I was afraid because of my height that I would have to get a custom made qipao which would have been at least $300, but found one off the rack for $38. The short dress, though, is still my favorite. I used to work in a higher-end department store, and saw this dress on the clearance rack. On a whim, I decided to buy it. By the time they took all the markdowns, coupons, and employee discount off, I paid $12 or so for it.

I'm not sure what I'm more proud of - finding three dresses that are so pretty... or getting them all so cheap!
Holy crap! That is a great deal on all three! I also worried about finding a dress for my height. You would think they would make more options for wedding gowns.

I'm under 5' tall, so it's hard to find things that are flattering without needing a ton of alterations. I'm not talking about hemming, I mean total reconstruction of the dress. I tried on a few dresses where the bottom o the bodice was hitting below my hips. No bueno!

Thank you! Pictures really don't do it justice. It is the last dress I had saved to my favorites and and I was really "meh" about it until I tried it on. I love it so much and it is sooooooo comfortable. I really have not wanted to take it off. Ever.

Total reconstruction...yikes. I could see how that could be frustrating. The ones you posted fit you great. I have the exact opposite problem. I am a giant. Finding a dress long enough so I can wear heels is hard...or the short flirty sundresses...forget it. Unless I want to look like a hooker.

  • Love all three dresses, OP! I especially love the reception one. There will be so much twirl while you're dancing!

@sweetwisconsin I love that dress!! I think I might have tried it on, actually - Maggie Sottero?

@thesummersky It looks very similar to some of her dresses. This one is a Ronald Joyce. I actually have no clue who that designer is. My bridal consultant just randomly pulled it and I fell in love with it.

@sweetwisconsin‌ I used to be a personal shopper and know how frustrating it can be for tall women! I had one client who was over 6' tall and nothing fit her right off the rack. We did a lot of men's dress shirts and had the tailor add darts so the fit was better. I can't imagine how hard finding a wedding dress was!

@phira‌ My seamstress did a fantastic job with the tailoring. She hemmed it a good 8" (3 layers, she made the inner two shorter so I wouldn't trip), and took in the area where the hip was since it was nearer to my knees. It turned out so well that I almost cried.

@thesummersky‌ Much twirling indeed! One of the reasons I chose to wear that dress! hehe

Edited because I hate TK mobile.

  • Weird. My other two posts in that debacle didn't get deleted. Oh well, dress again!
  • Here is mine when I had the bustle put in (that I will probably just leave up, I don't like having a train very much).  And it will have a sparkly belt.
  • @Blergbot So pretty! I love the belt, but I'm a sucker for sparkly things!

@sarahonlife I'm jealous of your ruffles! I looked at a dress similar to yours online, but I was afraid of how much the alterations would have been.

  • love all the dresses!
  • Congrats those dresses are so pretty.

  • All your dresses are so gorgeous! Here's mine again. Too tight in the hips, ridiculous mugging for the camera after finding it. (And sissy posing in the BM color but not the right dress.)

Thanks! Not at all what I was going for when I went dress shopping. The consultant asked if I would be willing to try it on, and I fell in love. Lots of tiny little pearl beads are all throughout the beading sections.

  • I really would like to post because I am an AW and because I like bragging on my mom, but I can't post any pictures because no pictures exist yet. My mom is making my dress, because she's classy and baller.

That's awesome! What a treasured piece that will be.

@kaitlynmichelle‌ I love the lace on your train a lot!

  • I dont have any clear up close pics of my dress on my phone so bear with me AWing a few wedding photos.
