Wedding Invitations & Paper

How detailed do I have to be on menu selections?

Do I just put:
Chicken
Salmon
Filet Mignon

Or do I put the detailed descriptions:
Filet Mignon with tri-color dauphinoise potatoes and bordelaise sauce
Grilled lemon and sage chicken with creamy saffron orzo pasta
Seared Tasmanian salmon with fennel confit and lyonnaise potatoes

Re: How detailed do I have to be on menu selections?

  • If you know that much detail, I'd put it. More information can't be a bad thing, and then it gives people a good idea of what they're ordering.

Ex.: Normally, I'd pick chicken, but I don't like saffron, so knowing that it comes with saffron orzo pasta, I'd pick the filet instead.

Generally, I would prefer it to be more detailed.  But, given both those RSVP cards, I would have ordered the same thing: filet mignon.

  • Thanks ladies! More detail it is!

People with dietary conditions will ask for the information anyway so they can determine if they can eat the food that's on the menu, so I'd provide it.
  • I have nothing to add except that I really want both the filet and the chicken right now.

I have no idea how I'm going to decide my own meal! Maybe because I'm the bride, they'll bring me all 3?

Maybe split a plate with all three with your new H? That way both of you can hammer down on all three!

YES. That is a fantastic idea.

I'm now picturing the Tasmanian devil, only as a salmon whizzing around in a blur.

I printed my RSVP cards before I knew the menu selections, so they just say chicken, fish and vegetarian, but the full details are on the wedding website and there will be an insert card telling them so. Our chicken has a mushroom sherry cream sauce and I know a lot of people don't like mushrooms, so they may prefer our Scottish salmon which I picture wearing a kilt (or just ask for it sauce-less). Who knew salmon was so full of personality?

  • I had Scottish salmon at a dinner last month and I kept speaking to my FI as the fish in a Scottish accent.
  • Well, apparently the design I chose is not giving me much room for descriptions of entrees. I'm going to have to really shorten the descriptions. D'oh.
  • I'll have the salmon, please.

    Thanks.

Are you filling in a template, or is this something you can lay out yourself and upload? If you need assistance, I can definitely help with some typography.

You don't need it on the RSVP cards themselves. Can you fit just

    Filet Mignon
    Grilled Chicken
    Seared Salmon

and have an insert describing them each in detail? Or an insert directing them to your wedding website, if you have one? The picky people/people with allergies/sensitivities will seek it out. :)

I hadn't planned on putting together a wedding website, but that's really not a bad idea. Thanks!
