Heading back in July!

Got grandma on board with baby sitting so we're having a late 3rd anniversary party in Vegas in July; can't wait.  We haven't been out in nearly a year now.  I just hope Mix will still be open at the time; can't find anyone there who really seems to know since all the folks we worked with for our wedding have moved on.  Staying at Golden Nugget again; love that place.

  • Agree!  We love the Golden Nugget also.  It really was a pleasant surprise after staying on the Strip.  Try the Chart House restaurant there (if you haven't already), it was fantastic :-)

My parents were just at Mix a few weeks ago - no indication of it closing or anything. So either they are going to shut it down very suddenly, or they are slow with the announcement. If it gets closer to your trip and you haven't managed to find any information, let me know and I'll make a quick trip to Mandalay and check it out for you.

We indulge heavily at Chart House and Vic & Anthony's since the casino picks up the tab. :-)  V&A's has a very unique meal item; it's a one pound Australian lobster tail that they have shipped in overnight.  It's pretty incredible but tastes nothing like Maine lobster, for example.  Anyway, it's huge and so good, but way too expensive to actually purchase if the casino wasn't paying for it; I think it's like $120, wtf.

  • Oh wow VG that sounds great.

So here's possibly a stupid question... but how do you get the casino to comp meals?  I've only been to Vegas twice and live in New Zealand so still unsure how everything is meant to work :-)

  • Sign up for all casino players cards and spend a lot of $ and always use your card when you gamble.  We use ours and spend enough that we usually get an couple of nights comped.    We also have several different cards, mlife and totalrewards and others they all send us offers now for discounts and special promotions in the mail and via email.

  • Yep; exactly right. It does take a fair amount of wagering at the craps table for me to get comped on rooms and $300 meals but sometimes I win, well, very occasionally lol. In any case, the big resorts all have players programs of differing value. Currently, I get, by far, the best return on my gambling investment from Golden Nugget. Palms is next, but of course they're just one casino. The GN at least has a few others around the country if I were to ever go to them. Of the remaining big ones, there's Caesars' Total Rewards program which covers all the Caesars properties, and MGM's MLife which covers all their properties. I've found Total Rewards treats me better than MLife; they changed their program a few years ago and it mostly stinks now, at least for table game players like me since the only gambling I do is craps table.

  • Just found out we're going to get to go back to Vegas for a long weekend again (it's on my way back from a work trip yeah!).  So I contacted Mandalay bay to see about comps at The Hotel and was told it was under renovation 24 hrs a day and that rooms were not available as it was being changed to Delano. They got us rooms at Mandalay bay instead but thought it was interesting they're not even offering rooms over at The Hotel because of the renovations.  I'll check out Mix when we're there and see what I can find out.
