Dress color not quite right...

We are doing an orange and grey color scheme for our wedding. When I went shopping with my bridesmaids, we chose the dress and then whatever orange the designer offered. I just got the swatch in, and it's really more of a reddish orange than I thought it would be. I'm concerned that people will really think they are wearing red and wonder why all the bridesmaids are wearing the wrong color. Should I be worried about this? Will anyone care?

  • Is it red or reddish orange? Shades of orange with gray sounds gorgeous.

What else is orange in the wedding? If it's flowers, you don't want them to blend in with the dresses anyway. And for linens, no one is going to hold up the napkin to the bridesmaid and gasp.

  • It's reddish orange.  We took a picture of the swatch with the flash, and it came out orange.  Without the flash, it's more red.  The bridesmaids are carrying white flowers anyway, but the groomsmen will have orange ties / bouts (which may not match now)  The tablecloths are grey with orange napkins and orange sola flowers in the centerpieces.
  • I think as long as all the colours are in the orange palette, it'll be fine. I doubt anyone will notice that the oranges are different.

The purple of my BMs' dresses was much darker than the purple of the ties DH bought for his GM, and it looked fine together.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • It is fine to have differing colors all in the same color palette.  Actually it makes things more interesting to the eye when everything isn't the same two or three colors.

Once I thought some BMs at a wedding were wearing red and I was HORRIFIED.

Kidding. No one is going to give a flying fruitcake if your BMs aren't perfectly matched to your color scheme, let alone "wonder why all the BMs are wearing the wrong color." Unless you absolutely loathe the swatch color, forget about it.

I'm imagining something like these colors combined (ignore the horrible fit and ruffle on the dresses in the first photo), and I think it looks great. And like Maggie said, more visual interest, more warm feeling.

  • Can you add more of the reddish-orange to your decor?  Small things, like ribbon, candles, or candy (not sure if it goes with your decor, but just some ideas).  Just so it looks more pulled together and "you planned it that way".
