Late September Northeast brides - bolero/shrug?

Wedding is 9/27/14 in the Hudson Valley. The weather can be so iffy around then. Last year, the high was 75 (it's my birthday, so I usually remember the weather). There have been years when the weather is cold and 55 degrees. We're hoping to have an outdoor ceremony, weather permitting, that will last 15 minutes. We'll be taking pictures outside too. My dress is strapless. Should I plan for something to cover me? Would it be a waste of money?

ckel24 - what are you planning on doing?

I plan on purchasing a pashmina --- not the dainty, see-through, barely-there-for-decoration type, but an actual pashmina with a good, heavier fabric. They are great for covering shoulders and keeping warm! (Also, they're very cost-effective so I won't be pissed if I buy it and don't use it).

Dude, that is a great idea!!
  • Mine is 9/13 in MA so the weather can be unpredictably chilly here too. I really hadn't planned on anything to be honest, I figured I'd just suck it up for the small time I'll be outside. Where do you get a heavy pashmina? I've never owned/ looked for one lol

  • I vote for pashmina, because that is something you can use again if you get invited to an outdoor wedding or for a night out on the town on a cool spring/summer night.

I'm thinking I might try some department stores. And of course now, I have to decide what color!

Nordstrom & department stores usually have good, heavy-duty ones. I have one that is a winter staple, but that's from Italy :)

Also, check Amazon & Overstock. Search for wool blends.

You can also get a cute, fine-gauge cardigan somewhere like J. Crew (or even Target or Old Navy). I love brides in cardigans!
  • I'm happy I clicked on this - stupid TK didn't tell me you tagged me! I hadn't planned on doing anything because our ceremony will be so short and most of the pictures will be done beforehand (all outside). I was worrying as well because, well, it's NY in September. Who knows what the temps will be. I like @ElcaB's suggestion of a pashmina. @emmyg65 I love the look of brides in cardigans as well! I've always wanted an excuse to buy a really nice cashmere one so maybe I'll use the wedding as my excuse!

I would get a faux fur stole, a wrap, faux fur cape, or a capelet.  I would not want to be all blue and freezing on my wedding day.  Perhaps you can get something that you can wear on other special occasions.

  •  I am  a summer bride but I am armenian orthodox my church requires the brides and bridesmaids to have shoulders covered

I searched around for a bolero but nothing matched my dress so I finally asked the salon for a recommendation and they told me they could get fabric from the designer in the same material and make me a jacket. my dress was a one shoulder dress that i am adding a second  strap to think thick wide alecon lace straps here

then for my maids we got one shoulder jasmine dresses but got chiffon shrugs from jc penny
