Rehearsal/Rehearsal Dinner

I'm not sure what the etiquette is here.

Were having about 50 people at the rehearsal dinner. Wedding party and close family. While we are very excited to have them at the dinner, we don't need all of them at the rehearsal. Our venue is 30 minutes outside where everyone is staying and where the dinner is so I also don't want the unneeded people to feel obligated to drive out for the rehearsal.

How do I word invitations for everything bot not make people feel like they have to be at both if they wont be needed?

Re: Rehearsal/Rehearsal Dinner

  • Can you do two different invites?  Or one invite with the dinner information and then an insert or word of mouth invite for the rehearsal.

I'd send invitations for just the dinner to everyone (including people who'll be rehearsing).

The rehearsal does not need invitations--you can just call/email the people who are involved.

  • I've actually never gotten an invitation for the rehearsal, only for the actual dinner. I would just email everyone who needs to be at the rehearsal and send the invite out for the rehearsal dinner only.

    yep.

Although we invited 100+ people to our dinner via the word of mouth.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We did 2 evites. One for bridal party with rehearsal information and one for family with dinner invitations (though if people carpooled we welcomed them at the rehearsal if they wanted to attend).
