Should've knocked on wood...

…when I was talking about not going to the dentist in 3+ years.

I just broke a big ass piece off of one of my back molars. Eating a piece of elk jerky. Pretty sure it was an old filling + a bum tooth. Consider this a PSA to all the other teeth slackers: regular dental maintenance is important.

Fuuuuuuuck!

  • OUCH. I actually just finished talking to FI about possibly scheduling a dental visit. I think this is a sign that I should go next week.

  • Go now, Pinkcow. We can't have a bunch of toothless Knotties or the Bees will start talking more shit than they normally do about us (…though, it may give us some street cred if we look all rough-like…).

My teeth hurt just reading this. But if I wait six more months, I'll have dental insurance!

  • We waited too long because of lack of insurance. FI and I went to the dentist yesterday. My mouth was fine (after 18 months) but FI's is a disaster after 6 years. Fortunately, it's easier to price shop and finance dental work these days...

    Good luck!

Oh man. I'm with you. *Knocks on wood* I've never had a cavity and I'm usually good about going to the dentist regularly but it's been almost 3 years exactly. Side-eying my calendar. Gonna make an appointment.
  • I was hoping to have woken up this morning to find it was a dream. No such luck. Appointment tomorrow morning at 7:00 am. I'm predicting a crown.

Make those appointments, ladies! (and yay for insurance soon, Phira!)

  • Ouch!!!! :( I feel bad for dentists, though. I mean, seriously...no one is excited to see you professionally. Ever.

@mrsmorales2be I work at a dental office, and that pretty much sums it up. The best line I got was from a lovely older Southern lady after asking if she wanted to schedule her next appointment: "Oh, honey, that's sweet of you to try, but you know I hate seeing y'all".
  • My teeth are so soft. I have a bajillion cavities. To be honest, I'm waiting until my back three get bad enough that I can have a bridge. I would really like my dentist to rip all of my teeth out and just put in implants. It's probably going to be less pricey for me than having to go back and having multiple cavities filled every time.

My teeth are even decaying under the crowns I have. :[
My dad has super soft teeth like you…and I definitely got the crappy gene on that front.

And I actually don't hate the dentist. I mean I don't love him, but I don't hate him either. It's the cost I hate. Even with insurance, it's going to likely cost me hundreds of dollars to fix the bastard tooth. Ugh.

  • Once I found a dentist with the fun gas and who didn't tell me everything - I take my Ativan, DF drives me, they put a topical numbing gel on my gums, take x rays while I try to not gag and then I get my happy gas and go la de dah de dah while my teeth get cleaned. Then they use the novocaine if needed and I'm too far into my happy place to really notice.

But if I go every six months, no icky horse needle. And I get new heads for my toothbrush then. I like those.
  • Sooooo, I just got back and have a lovely little temporary crown and am $500 dollars lighter (and that's WITH insurance). Yay! (<<<to be read steeped with sarcasm)

He said it's got the potential to need a root canal, and we should know definitively by the time the permanent crown is ready in 3 weeks. AND, I get to go back in 3 hours for a "full" exam/cleaning, at which point they can tell me about the other 2-3 cavities I likely have.

Seriously. Go. RUN to the dentist. Cuz this sucks and yes, I shoulda known better than to wait so long.

I am currently going through with a $6,000 treatment for my teeth/gums, so much fun. NOT!

Go to the dentist, go early, go often, I will happily be the cautionary tale...
