High waisted bikinis: Yay or nay?

I like them. I think I want to get one this year.

Re: High waisted bikinis: Yay or nay?

  • Nay but that is because I hate pretty much anything high waisted.  I just find that style to be uncomfortable and it really shows off my pooch.

  • I think you've got to be very careful about having the right style and right figure. Most real life people I've seen them on look like they're wearing granny panties.

Yay.  I think they look hot on plus size and/or curvy women.  Example:image.

  • I'm on the fence.  I actually had this one in my online shopping cart recently (the brown one on the right).  Fi said it looked like underwear and he thought it was weird.  I decided not to order it.

I'm sort of not curvy enough to look like @doeydo's picture, but not skinny enough that I can feel confident wearing whatever.  So I think I may just pass on this trend.

I think they're cute, but I don't think everyone can pull them off.

    Personally, I prefer strapless one-pieces.

  • I love them, but only because I go to a beach where ladies are a little... lax on the "grooming" aspect of summer and I see far too much public hair lol
  • I love them!
  • I think they only look good on a very, very small percentage of the population. Aside from people shaped like Marilyn or Twiggy, I think they look pretty dumb.

  • I tried one on. I am not the right body type for this look.
  • I have one that I had custom made three or four years ago. I rarely have occasion to wear it but I absolutely love it. I'm a bit self conscious, especially about my love handles and don't like the feeling of having it all hang out in a bikini, so I feel much more comfortable with the high waist.

Def. Yay! Because I would rather see that out on the beach/Pool/Lake than the super tiny/thong bikinis. Sorry if that offends some of you but while H and I were on our HM we went through an underground river, and many of the ladies were wearing them...and going underwater with their butts in the air. The cave would get smaller in certain areas thus making us all in very close proximity..yeah, that wasn't pleasant. I do not want to see your whole ass. There was a very thin line of fabric before seeing the crotch. Thanks, but no thanks. I don't need that all up in my face.

  • I really don't think I could pull it off. But if you have the figure to, I say go for it!

  • I do not have the figure for that. At all.

I have a short torso and am very straight up-and-down. I'm what clothing designers euphemistically categorise as 'boyish.'

This look hits me exactly wrong -- it makes my already-short torso look even shorter, and it makes me look disproportionate and chubby. Not at fan.

But, there are people it looks awesome on, and I say, 'Rock on with your sexy self!'

  • Nay. I just don't think they flatter most people(and they make me think granny panties, too!). If I'm trying to conceal a pooch, I like the way one pieces and tankinis fit much better.

I like it, but I'm scared of it. I always adapt trends like 10 years after they're trendy.
  • For me - Nay. I'm short and short-waisted. But I like them on others.
  • I agree! I am not sure how that would look on me, but it is great to have that out there for people who want something that isn't the traditional triangular top piece and regular bottoms. I am not trying to be harsh on myself...but through the wedding panning process, I gained quite a bit of weight. I am not overweight by any means, but I realized in my pics of my HM, the SS I was wearing...wasn't so flattering on me. IMO. Again, it might just be  a self image thing, but I would love a SS that flatters me...not makes me look out of shape.

I could see myself wearing a tankini. But I am not sure I could rock the high waisted type. I am short and it would look frumpy om me lol. I also have a short torso, too. So theres that...

I haven't found one I like, and I've already splurged on two Modcloth one-pieces, so until 1) I'm making bank, 2) my current suits wear out, or 3) I gain or lose enough weight that I need new suits, no new suits for me. High waisted or not.

But I don't mind the trend. I like having a variety of styles of one and two-piece bathing suits. Everyone feels comfortable in different styles, and likes how they look in different styles. I know plenty of plus size women who love wearing two pieces, and plenty of very slim women who prefer one pieces. So, whatever makes you feel great!

I'm with kitty on this one. I even have that hourglass figure and I just feel like I'm putting on granny panties. I'll wear my tankini any day over something that basically makes me feel like I'm wearing granny panties.

  • Oh Gawd, I don't care what size you are.  I don't care if you're Alessandra Ambrosio.  I don't want to see you in a thong on the beach.

And while we're on the subject, I don't want to see your ass cheeks hanging out the bottom of your shorts or dress either.  I know it's hot, but your ass doesn't need that much ventilation.
I have a pretty good booty and I've always managed to keep my ass cheeks in check. And they never feel very warm. I except others to do the same.
  • Nay for me.  Don't get me wrong, I love my high waisted skirts, but high waisted bathing suit bottoms just kinda look like granny panties to me.

That said, some people totally rock the look, it's just not something I would personally wear.

  • Yay for the right body, horribly no for me.  But I hate anything high wasted.  It reminds me of the 90's and I feel it makes you ass look bigger .

  • I like them but I haven't tried one on to know if it would work on me. I showed them to FI once and he said they looked like something his grandma would have worn when she was young. He said it with an ick look on his face.

RIGHT!? H and I were like, WTF? I dont really care to see all of that.Unfortunately, closing my eyes wasnt an option or I would have run into a cave wall. Idk, maybe that would have been a good thing though...her butt was way too close for my comfort.

And I agree, no butt should be shown that much in shorts, a skirt, SS or anything else. Call me modest, but its just uncomfortable and annoying. I mean, I am big chested, but you don't see me in a top that barely covers my boobies! Just because you got it, doesn't mean you should flaunt it.

I'm gonna a throw in a nay for me. I think I may actually be able to pull it off if I tried, but at that point why not just wear a one piece? I like my tankini just fine, thank you very much,

I think they only look good on a very, very small percentage of the population. Aside from people shaped like Marilyn or Twiggy, I think they look pretty dumb.

My first thought was "Um, high waisted women's underwear on a pair of drug wreaked men isn't going to be pretty even if one did the kinderwhore look fairly well." Then it was "Duh, the two women they named themselves from."

On me, I'm very short torso. Regular waist is high waisted on me. Plus, I am very close to a true hourglass figure, so nothing on the market now fits my waist and hips at the same time. Last but most important, I have a big booty. It's great, but you could set a table for four on it easily. High waisted shorts or pants never have a proper rise so I get major camel toe. I see very few people who can wear high waisted right.

I only have bikinis or takinis. One piece do not work. Mostly because I need an actual bra size for top. I wear boy short type bottoms almost always. I get the tops from Freya as no one else does big boob swim tops as well. Bottoms are from Target usually. I match them to the added color vs the main black fabric.

Am I the only one distracted by the bright pink swim top not fitting right at all? It's way too small, the quad boobing is already visible and the gore is not even close to tacking. Granted, I got the VS catalog and every single bra there is too small and not tacking. It's crazy common, bras are modeled to not fit. But as the proud owner of some fantastic, awesome, perfect, big boobs - it's such a huge issue. If women would ignore the tag and wear an appropriate fitting bra, those bras would drop drastically in price and guess what - going from a quad boobing 36DDD to a 32HH makes you look a good 20 pounds thinner.
