Can't sleep

I am a bit of an insomniac sometimes and for reasons that escape me, whenever I can't sleep I get the strangest urge to listen to 70s and 80s Punk. You know because there is nothing more soothing than The Sex Pistols.

What strange thing do you do when you can't sleep?

Re: Can't sleep

  • I currently can't sleep either (very unusual for me). I usually Knot or read silly gossip sites when I can't sleep.

  • I wish I had a can't sleep activity. I pretty much just lie there trying to fall asleep. Sometimes I write poetry.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I get up and clean or walk around for 15 minutes. It usually resets my mind. Either that or read.

I lay there cursing at myself to go back to sleep. I've realized a super cold room helps me fall back asleep more quickly. I'm still up a lot at night, though.
  • Me, too. I am a life long insomniac. I take ambien, but when I get really stressed out (like right now when I'm finishing up grad school), then even ambien can't save me and I'm up until 3 am every night.

Ambien never worked for me. Xanax worked for my insomnia but, unfortunately, my doctor doesn't like the idea of taking Xanax long term. Which I understand. But sleep! I miss it.
  • @lc07‌ it does work for me under normal circumstances, but when I can't sleep I can't sleep. Period. At least sometimes I can get loopy ambien-drunk like last night :) FI looooooves that.
  • I play The Sims 3 or ESO when I can't sleep. Or I peruse Tumblr, watch Golden Girls, and work on art stuff.

I need to do more of the art stuff.

    I'm the fuck
    out.

  • I'm usually out as soon as my head hits the pillow so nights that I'm restless are far and few between and those are easily solved with a dose of Zquil!
  • I used to have chronic anxiety, a symptom of which was horrible insomnia.

It started to get better after a lot of emotional and chiropractic therapy. I know the chiropractor sounds weird, but he did a lot with pressure points that calmed me the heck down.

Now I have no trouble falling asleep, but if I wanted to do it on demand, I just turn on 2012, Armageddon, or the Core. For some reason, movies regarding the end of the world somehow comfort me to sleep.

I may be an odd duck.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

Go on The Knot, play games on Facebook, binge watch whatever show I am into on Netflix (currently, I am watching American Horror Story), or read (right now I am reading a lesbian romance novel by a local author).

I love American Horror Story! Which season are you on?
  • I watch tv/netflix.  I sometimes read but that could go either way because I often end up staying up later than planned finishing the book.   When I was younger, I used to have trouble falling asleep so my pediatrician suggested I read a book, thinking I would get bored and fall asleep.  My mom then spent the next several years yelling at me to "put the book away and go to sleep!!"

I'm on Season 1 Episode 12.  Is it wrong that I want Tate to continue therapy and meds and hopefully 'get better' and for him and Violet to be together?

  • I play on my phone... usually if I cannot sleep it's because I have too much on my mind (or because it's way too hot in my house).

  • Run through all the things I need to do at work, all our outstanding house chores, my grocery list, previous conversations I think I fucked up, and every other concern I have, over and over and over again. It's very soothing!

No. I wanted that too. I think this is one of the fewe examples where more people are cheering for the antagonist than the protagonist.
