Honeymoon ideas in the US- Any feedback?

My fiance and I are staying within the US for our honeymoon the second week of September, but can't decide where to go!  Our top three choices are Vail/ Boulder, CO, Napa Valley/ San Fran, and Mackinac Island/ Traverse City, MI.  Does anyone have any input on those destinations?  It will be September so Vail won't be as expensive as it usually is, but at the same time I'm wondering if there will be enough to do and see there during the summer?  I've been to MI many times before and love those little resort towns on Lake Michigan, but the FI isn't really convinced.  Any feedback from previous experiences would be appreciated!

I was in San Francisco for a conference last September and it was fantastic. Especially if you are into food and wine.  Fi came with me and we rented a car and drove down to Big Sur and Carmel. It was so romantic and one of our favourite holidays. The weather was also great that time of year. I couldn't recommend it more!

My trip to Napa Valley/San Fran was one of my favorite trips I've ever taken!  I would definitely vote for that!!

Instead of Vail, go a little farther west to Glenwood Springs, CO.  They have natural volcanic hot springs, amazing hiking and bicycling paths, incredible rock cliff scenery.  It isn't nearly as touristy as Vail, and the aspen leaves will be turning.  I live a hour and a half to the west in Grand Junction.  Most locals prefer Glenwood Springs to Vail, which has been over developed.

Thanks for the input everyone! We will have to think some more about what we want and then choose.  All of them seem like fun trips so it's difficult!

I live in Colorado! If you come here, I would suggest Estes Park. Especially in the fall. It's gorgeous. It's a quaint little town with plenty of mountain activities and souvenir shopping. Rocky Mountain National Park is to die for! Stay at the Stanley Hotel. I would forgo Boulder...
