Does anyone else feel that they look good in the mirror

Re: Does anyone else feel that they look good in the mirror

  • If I've taken the time to attempt to look good before going out, I usually like the way I look in the mirror and then get excited to go out...

then someone takes a picture of me and I'm like, "really? I left the house looking like this and NO ONE CARED TO TELL ME?!"

  • Superficial admission time: I happen to be embarrassingly proud that my brother, who is almost universally revered as super hot, actually photographs less well than me. Booyah, bitches!!
  • @wandajune6 The picture of you above your screenname is very striking, with your red hair and fair skin.

  • I have a few tricks I try, when appropriate, to look better in photos.

    1. Hands on hips- prevents arms from flattening against your body which contributes to the fat-look factor.
    2. One leg straight and the other leg bent- again, so you don't flatten yourself
    3. Chin up (speaks for itself)
4.... and the move lovingly known as "the sorority head tilt"- if you cock you head just slightly, the double-chin shouldn't show and you look super friendly!
    5. Stand up straight!

I have no tricks for makeup, unfortunately. I'm always ghostly no matter how much I think I walked out looking like a Kardashian.

One of the things I can do well, is take a picture. I've posed for enough friends to figure out what works and what doesn't. Chin up, shoulders back, hips turned slightly, and for the love of god do not shoot from below! I look super weird shot from below.

That said, there are some pictures that make me go "What the fuck happened here?!" and sometimes I look at them and think "Why am I so pale? I know I'm pale but this is some Casper shit right here, what the fuck?" I have not figured out how to pose to look less pale. Except to pose by people paler than me.
Pose next to me and you'll look positively colorful. My dad jokes that I'm so white I glow in the dark.

@MairePoppy - You're sweet, thanks! I think I get compared to my sister too much!

  • My face is really asymmetrical so I don't look as bad in a mirror, when I'm animated, as I do in a still pic.

I've actually heard a number of photogs say to tilt the head slightly forward rather than chin up.  I tried it at a recent event and while I still hated the picture, my chin/neck area looked good and more natural.

  • Ugh, yes. All. the. time.

  • Ugh, yes. I can look in the mirror and think "yay, I look pretty today!" but take a picture 5 minutes later and I feel like I look ridiculous. I don't like how the angles of my face photograph and I feel like my nose is disproportionate.

This is a big problem because my FI looooooves to take pictures. I literally JUST got off the phone with him after having an argument about a picture he just posted of the 2 of us; I feel like I look terrible and was close to tears over this stupid picture. I am going to force myself to figure out good angles before we get married, I refuse to hate my wedding photos.

  • I am NOT photogenic. I think I look much better in person. That said, the right photographer can even make ME look great in pictures, and it does help that they're taking eleventy billion pics and providing direction versus a single click of the camera with me just trying to do my best to not look like a weirdo. I actually looked really good in our engagement photos...and my boudoir shoot was incredible. I couldn't BELIEVE it was me when I saw the proofs. My FI is going to die when he sees them!

But yes, generally speaking...I think I usually look whack in pictures despite being a fairly attractive woman (minus the stupid metal braces on my grill *sigh*). I definitely need to work on smiling and posing in the mirror over the next couple of weeks so I can salvage the wedding photos. Shit.
