Luggage Question

I am looking for a little feedback. The luggage I want is on the pricey side but it seems to go on sale on a regular basis.  Since I am using myregistry.com, I can add a note to any item. Would it be tacky to let my guests know that the item frequently goes on sale? I would feel awful if someone paid full price when it seems to be almost half off at times.

Re: Luggage Question

  • I would not add a note. Anyone with a brain will either shop around or watch for sales. Anyone without a brain, well, a fool and his money are soon parted.

  • I wouldn't add a note, people know to watch for sales. That being said, I would avoid pricey luggage because there is a high likelihood it won't survive the first airline trip. We got a new luggage set from our registry (about $100 on sale) and the airlines broke it on our honeymoon trip. They somehow bent the handle so it doesn't pull out anymore which makes it next to useless.

The only way you may be able to do this is by word of mouth.  If family the most likely to get the high ticket items you could say something to your mom about adding it to the registry and it is expensive but you know it goes on sale..Then she may be able to bring that point up with aunts/others that may talk registry with her.

I'd also vote no on notes -- we did an Amazon registry and they also let you add notes in.  We have a few items on there that seem to fluctuate regularly so I definitely thought about it (and FI asked if we could haha) but ultimately I just felt uncomfortable doing so when it came to price.  I will say we added a note saying we liked the blue and red versions of our luggage, because blue kept going out of stock.  Price is different though.  I think its a well intentioned idea that is over-stepping a bit; it would be like telling guests how to buy you a gift.

ETF: apparently forgot a few words mid-sentence.
  •  Another vote for no notes. I think most people know to shop around a bit. I generally browse a shower registry, see what they have, and then do a quick search to compare prices between stores. If I find it cheaper somewhere else, I get it there, and make sure to check it off whatever registry they have.
