Not Engaged Yet

New to this board! Y'all seem fun.

Screen Name: emmaaa
Age: 23
Significant Other's Age: 23
What You Do: Senior Programs/Special Event Coordinator for a Town (Recreation Specialist)
What SO Does: Full-time student, part-time at NCSU golf course
State of Relationship: engaged
How Long You've Been Together: Close to six years
How You Met: When we were at day care, we had a mutual best friend and still do
Wedding Date (if you're engaged/married): 12/27/14
Real Babies: n/a
Fur Babies: 5 dogs, 1 cat (only 3 dogs live with us)
Loves: reading, bon fires, watching TV with FI, spending time with friends, wine, beer, going to the lake/beach/mountains, double/triple/quadruple dates, museums, cleaning, pigs
Hates: waiting for anything, flying, mosquitoes, the dark, heights, being wrong, saliva and mouths
Pet Peeves: disrespectful people, loud chewing
Hobbies/Activities: watching MLB on TV (we want to go to a game) and teasing FI when his team loses, camping, gardening/farming
Favorite Thing About Your SO: FI has such a servant and caring heart. He will go out of his way to make everyone else happy. His exterior can come across as a typical hardworking, stern man but he can be one of the sweetest people you would ever meet. He takes such good care of me and is always willing to help out my family and will go out of his way to do so.
Least Favorite Thing About Your SO: He hates confrontation. Which seems fine. Except instead of saying when something bothers him he just lets it bottle up until he just loses it. We have worked on that in our relationship but he still has trouble in it with his family.
Describe Your Personality: I am very out going. I have never met a stranger and I love talking to people. I am extremely organized and dependable. I am what people consider very high strung.
Snark Level (1 [low snark] - 10 [high snark]): Depends on the day. My friends call me sassy. So on average a 7ish?
I've Been On TK Since: November, I believe.
How You Came to Be On TK: Email
How I like my potatoes: Any way except potato salad. Baked, fried, mashed, creamed, scalloped, stewed. You name it.
Favorite book/author: I love Jodi Picoult.
Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: I grew up on a farm and learned how to work in the garden and with the livestock. I think by spending my summers harvesting the garden rather than going to summer camp helped develop my strong sense of work ethic.

  • Welcome! What's your favorite museum?
  • *waves* Hi! I've only read one of Jodi Picoult's books (The Pact), but I really enjoyed it. What books would you recommend?

  • @KeptInStiches I love the North Carolina History Museum in Raleigh. I love history and especially local history. My FI has been to the NC Transportation Museum which he said is awesome, I really want to go to that one. It is in Salisbury, NC.

@TwoDimes Yes, I'm on CC a lot but have lurked over here a bit. My favorite book of hers was Handle with Care.

@weewittlewizabeth The Pact was actually the first book of hers I read, and it got me hooked. Handle with Care has been my Favorite. I also really enjoyed Nineteen Minutes.

@BreMR I'm not hard to please when it comes to wine. I like anything from a sweet white to a dry red. I try to buy from local wineries. One of my favorite is Duplin Black River Red. It is a deep sweet red, based in NC.

@buddysmom80 I know! Our month board is awful! I try to go over there and see what's new and it is a ghost town. We only have about 6+ months though!

  • Welcome!!! Pics of dogs and cats?
  • @southernpeach89 Of course! This is (from left to right, dogs) June (almost 4), Bama (2), and Loretta (3). Our cat is named Wynona (1).

  • @emmaaa OMG!!! So cute! Your cat is like, "WTF....get away from me lol"

What kind of dogs are they? They look like labs.
  • @southernpeach89 June is a golden retriever/chocolate lab mix. Bama is her puppy and his dad was full blooded chocolate lab. Loretta is an Australian shepherd/black lab mix. We have two other dogs that live at FI's parents' house because when we moved they were too content where they were. That was their home (plus FILs would be devastated if we took them). One that is there is 5 and he's a retriever/lab mix that we got from an animal shelter. his name is Bocephus (Bo). The other is 10 and she was FI's dog that his sister got for him. she is a black lab/chow mix and her name is Kayla (Loretta is her puppy).

All of our pets are mutts and we either adopted them from a shelter or someone who had free puppies. I can't justify paying for a full breed dog when so many others need home.

And yes, Wynona has no time for the dogs that she sees as peasants. Haha!

  • @Emmaaa That's awesome! My parents have goldens so we grew up around that personality that labs and goldens have. They are great dogs. @Lapeanut1018 has a black lab/ border collie mix that has energy for days x infinity. H and I also just got a full lab ourselves and his dad is a yellow lab and his mom is a black lab.

We got him from a kennel that does adoptions but she also breeds as well so there were a bunch of different dogs there. The labs were her dogs and they had an oops and had a bunch of puppies so that's how we got Maddux! We pick him up next Thursday.

  • @southernpeach89 OMG that puppy is so precious! My BFF has a chocolate lab and she looked just like that as a puppy. I love the personality that labs and retrievers have. For Loretta who has A LOT of Australian Shepherd in her, she has energy for days and is very protective. She has a different personality but it works with the other two because they are so laid back.

That puppy also looks so much like Bama when he was a baby!

  • Hi there!

I am being insanely lazy and only skimmed the other questions so ignore anything that's already been asked....

What's the last book you read?
    Last vacation you went on?
    Do you like guacamole?

  • Hi and welcome! I've seen you on CC too...I half lurk half participate. I'm also pretty high strung and am frequently called a sassypants by my FI...which I don't think is a bad thing at all!

What kind of farm did you grow up on?

  • @Swazzle The last book I read was 'Touch and Go' by Lisa Gardner. It was an easy and fun read.
It is hard to remember my last vacation because between college and then starting my first full time job where I'm saving all of my time for honeymoon, I haven't had one in forever. We have been with FI's family to the beach last summer but haven't had one to ourselves for three years. Last summer we went to Southport, NC for July 4th with his family for a couple of days. It was still fun! And nope, not a guacamole fan here.

@lmcooper86 It is a family farm. We had/have a garden (corn, green bean, blackeyed peas, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, squash, etc...) and cows and pigs we sell for meat. Now that my older brother is running it he has gotten s certified organic and sells the meat and pork. The garden is still mainly for the family.

  • Welcome!  And we have almost the same wedding date, yay!
