FI's being sent out of town for work

Next week Monday. I am not looking forward to it. I suspect I will not sleep the whole time he's OOT.

One of the pilots from this branch of FI's company has to work out of one of the other branches (on the other side of the country) for 3-6 months starting next week, so he's flying the plane down over the weekend. FI's going to drive down in the pilot's truck over Monday and Tuesday (it's a LONG drive, about 15 hours), and work on the computer systems at that branch on Wednesday. On Thursday he flies to the city (4-5 hours from here), hires a car and drives home so he can report to the office here. Then on Friday, we both get in his car and drive BACK to the city to go to my sister's wedding.

We've only been in this apartment a little over a month, I'm not even used to all the sounds yet and now I'm going to have to stay here alone for 3 nights. I'm a big 'fraidy cat!

  • *hugs* I know the feeling too.  FI's been away recently for a week and now may be sent to Prague for 10 days soon.  It's tough.

    Wine helps- lots of wine!

  • FI leaves for a week at a time for work. It's part of his justification for wanting a dog- protecting me!

I agree about wine and his pillow!

  • I don't get afraid when I'm alone, but I still feel weird sleeping alone in our bed.  So I pile the cats in with me (and my sister's dog if we're dog sitting), stay up until I'm just practically passing out, then go to bed.  If I stay up until I'm super tired, I'm out once my head hits the pillow and I don't have to lie there feeling weird.

    I do this too.

It's funny because initially I come home at the end of the day and think how great it is that I can have the TV all to myself, have what I want for dinner (cereal usually), etc... but come bedtime it's no fun anymore!

That's usually when I don't like FI being gone too! Before bed I am happy to just take up the whole couch and eat take out, but come bedtime  I end up sleeping in one of FI's tee shirts that I pulled out of the hamper and dragging the cat and dog into bed.

  • DH is out on a business trip next week as well. I usually have to double check all the doors and windows when he's out of town. For some reason it's super difficult to believe everything's secure when he's not here. Might have to load up on the wine as well.
  • We're going shopping tomorrow to get all my favourite foods that FI hates, so I can eat then while he's away. I'm going to make sure I get some wine. I'm going to have a look at the bargain bin at the DVD store and see if I can pick up a few movies to keep me company, and I'll probably sleep in the living room while FI's away because the bed just feels too weird without him.

I wish I could steal one of FI's shirts to wear, but he's like a quarter of my size!

Thanks for all the encouragement and words of wisdom everyone!
