  • You definitely have to be on the same page as your FI.  When my FI was married to his former wife, they adopted a rottie that they both by all accounts loved but two years in they had a baby and mom hated seeing dark rottie fur on sweet baby girl's pink and white outfits and forced dad to find a new home for the dog.....he found a great home for her and she had a very happy life but FI still (nearly 16 years later) talks about how much he hated rehoming the pup.

We currently have two cats because honestly they are less work than dogs (and with two active teens we have enough on our plates).  But we have agreed that when one of the cats passes away, they are both seniors, we will adopt a puppy.  I'm hoping our oldest cat will hold on for a couple of more years, as that will mean my SD will be out of high school and my SS should be starting high school.  But they are still very expensive.  Annual vet visits are in the neighborhood of $130/each, and food runs $47 every month and half, litter is about $15/month.  Thankfully they are indoor cats so we don't have to spend anything on tick, flea, heart worm prevention.
