Is it proper?

I am getting married May 3rd 2014 to an amazing man! This will be a second marriage for both of us. My first wedding my Dad walked me down the isle. My question is, would it be inappropriate to have my 16 yr old son walk me down this time? My fiance and I have 8 children between us but my oldest son and I have a very special bond. Please give this bride to be some advice!

Re: Is it proper?

  • I think that would be lovely.
  • My 15 year old daughter is walking me down the aisle.
  • I plan on having my 13 year old son walk me down the aisle, and my 10 year old daughter will be a bridesmaid.

That sounds wonderful, as long as it wouldn't upset the rest of your children that he is walking you and they aren't. If no feeling would be hurt, then I say this is a very lovely and sweet idea.

  • I am in the same boat. My dad walked me down the first time. I considered having my 9-year-old son (he will be 10 by then) walk me. But I don't like the part where he "hands me off" to my fiancee. The symbolism of being walked down the isle is that your dad has been taking care of you, and now your husband is sort of replacing your dad in that capacity. I just dont' like how it translates with my son.

So.... I think I will walk a little ways by myself, and then have my fiancee join me. We have been together for nearly 7 years, so I do feel like we are entering this marriage together. I considered walking alone, but it happens to be a really long walk LOL.

Thank you all for your thoughts. My son is very excited to walk me down and our other kids do not mind that he is. I asked my dad if he had any kind of I'll feelings about my son walking me down and not him and he said he thought it was a wonderful idea!
