How do I find out who wants what to eat at my reception?

Hi, I'm getting married in less than 3 months. We are having our invites printed next week, as we are proofing our digital invites now. I have a question about how I find out who is ordering what to eat. if an invite goes to a family of four how do I know who chose which dish? I'm using different colored designs on the name cards to indicate meal choices(per request of our venue). The best I can come up with is to have them initial next to the choice, but that feels tacky and complicated. But if you recommend the initials, how do I word that on the RSVP cards? Thanks!!!!

Hmmm but what if you have some guests with the same initials within a family?

"Please write each guest's name next to his or her preferred entree choice."

Yes, names would be better in case there are initials that are the same.

I did the initaling. The families that had same initials were smart enough to write the name.

Most people didn't read that part anyways though and we still had to follow up- but it still beat asking everyone individually!

we did initials and had no issues.  If anything you may get a few unknowns and it is easy to follow up with them.
