Intimate Weeding Ceremony and Receoption Later

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out if having an intimate wedding ceremony of just our parents, siblings and a few close friends would be acceptable and have a big receoption in the evening. I'm trying to save some money on a JP (Justice of The Peace) to do the ceremony and then go to the catering hall I have reserved later that evening after going to take pictures. Has anyone ever done this or are you thinking along the same lines as me? I could really use some input, planning on running this past my fiance and parents this weekend.

It's usually acceptable if it's a very very small ceremony. Some say only parents, grandparents and siblings. Personally if there are one or two friends I wouldn't be offended as a guest, but some people will say that's borderline "tiered wedding". As long as you're not inviting a certain group of friends to the ceremony and everyone else to the reception, it's fine.

Actually, my fiance and I were thinking of doing the same thing. It would be a huge savings to do it that way. The reception is the bulk of time anyway. Having everyone together celebrating is the important thing.
