Sound by design VS. Midwest sound

Does anyone have any advice as to which dj is better, or any recommendations for either one?? I know sound by design is a little more expensive, but am willing to pay for the reassurance of having a great DJ.

Sound by Design is AMAZING! My cousin had them at her wedding and I've never had a better DJ experience. I wanted to book them for my own wedding, but they are more than I was willing to pay so I went with Midwest Sound.

So, if you want the best DJ go with Sound by Design, but I think Midwest Sound will still do a great job for much less money so they were the better bargain for me.

I booked Midwest sound and they are the only company I worked with that I felt actually took the time to get to know me and really understand what I was looking for.  Since I felt most other places assumed they knew what I was looking for since I booked them for a wedding... I did not want cookie cutter and I don't feel that way at all... Great expereince so far!  i cannto wait for my wedding day!

If you do a search below on the Wisconsin Board, there are a lot of older posts with reviews for both DJs.

This.  We booked Midwest Sound because they took the time to get to know us before pushing their packages at us.  They also lowered the price and threw in 2 hours of dinner music for free since what we wanted didn't fit exactly into one of their packages.

I booked sound by design. Good company, no crazy packages, and have quality Djs. I really wanted a band, but couldnt afford that.  I would much rather go with a better DJ, but it depends on your budget. Meet with both of them, and get a feel for each company.

We booked Sound by Design and met w/both companies. We got wierd vipes from Midwest Sound, and they just kept giving us odd answers when we asked about uplighting (like: "we can't do white light." What? Apparently they don't understand what white light is.) We're going for a more elegant event, and when they explained their idea of a wedding DJ vs what Sound by Design explained, it was an obvious choice. Yes, it was more than we wanted to pay, but the DJ can make or break the reception ...

Thank you for all the helpful advice. there is a lot to consider with each. I really need a Dj that will be willing to work with me and my budget. Sounds like both of them will. I will meet with both and see which one i like better. Thanks again!

I used "DJ on the Mix" and they worked great. I was just at a wedding this past weekend and they had Sound by Design. They were great too. Nice and professional and they play all the songs we requested!!!

    Good Luck!

If you are still looking we used Sound By Design.  Ben was our DJ last month at our wedding and they were wonderful!  Everyone was on the dance floor all night long.   I found them really easy to work with and we got the information on who would be our DJ well in advance so we could work with him on what exactly we wanted.  They were awesome.

    Good luck!

I was just at a wedding that hired Sound by Design.  I have mixed reviews...

Their microphones and/or speakers didn't work well for any of the speeches - I felt awful for the people talking, as they had to cut their speeches short because people were really getting annoyed. Anytime anyone talked into them, there would be LOUD crackling noises and screeching, and you couldn't hear anything the speaker was saying. The DJ tried to fix it by adjusting the controls but basically all they did was turn the volume down so then you couldn't hear anything at all.  Anytime something with the microphone/speakers would go wrong, the DJ would just put his head down in embarrassment. I know that stuff is not something that's easy to plan for, but it still wasn't too pleasant.

Then they couldn't get my friend's DVD to play - they had an iMac laptop with them and it wouldn't support the DVD.  The DJ asked around to see if anyone had a PC laptop in their car - luckily a friend of mine did, and they asked her to run out to her car and get it.  She was parked a ways away and it was HOT out.  She came back with it and they just shooed her away and said "we don't need it anymore, we got this covered."  They did end up calling for help and one of their support guys got there pretty quick, which IS nice that they have that back up, but knowing that, they shouldn't have asked my friend to go get her laptop and then tell her "nevermind" when she got back. They should have first tested out the DVD before the reception or during cocktail hour to be sure it played, and if not, they should contacted their support guy right away. It could have all been taken care of before anyone knew there was something wrong with it.

HOWEVER, other than that, everything was great!  They played some appropriate 'easy' music for dinner, and then they had people out on the dance floor the ENTIRE night.  I had a blast dancing - they played a great variety of GOOD music for all ages.  I have never seen a dance floor so packed for the whole entire night.  I didn't want to leave!  Despite the glitches in the beginning, it was a great time. My legs still hurt from dancing and fist pumping Cool

We are considering hiring them for our wedding next summer, but if we do, we will make sure the microphones and DVD player work first Wink

We are also using Midwest Sound. We felt like the answers they gave us were honest and straightforward. With other companies we felt like many of them were full of themselves. Midwest even gave us some questions to ask when shopping around. We felt way better working with them.
