Rent the Runway?

I just found this site through Facebook. I think it would be a nice economical way to buy some dresses for the shower, rehearsal dinner, ect (dresses that I will have to buy and probably never wear again). Has anyone used the site before? I think $30 is pretty decent for a nice dress, but I wasn't sure of the condition of the dresses or accessories before you get them. Or does anyone know of any similar sites that they trust? I like the idea of it, I'm just wary of the process. Thanks!

Re: Rent the Runway?

  • My friends and I use it.  Good experiences--just rent far out in advance.  You get a free back up size, too (I always select a larger size) to ease fit concerns.  The good stuff in sizes larger than 2 tends to go fast.  At this point in my life, I'd much rather rent a bridesmaid dress than be forced to buy another cheap, ugly dress from David's Bridal.  I don't care if it's from the David's sale rack, I'd rather not own the dress.  Thank you thank you thank you for considering getting nice, designer dresses for your bridesmaids instead of more cheap satin in a ridiculous color.
  • I'm actually kicking myself right now because my bridesmaids already got their dresses. I let them pick whatever they wanted, but these are some seriously cute dresses for $40.. I have a closet full of some David's Bridal/Alfred Angelo that I will never be wearing again. I guess the only downside would be alterations, but I really wish I seen this a few months ago. I'm just picking out for me because I have the shower at the end of the month.
  • I have used this website twice now and my friend used them frequently as well.  I have not had any problems using them.  I also recommend getting the next size up dress.
  • I've used them about 4 times. Service was always fine. On two occasions the dresses arrived looking slightly worn looking, you know just not brand new. Super cute stuff though and I got tons of compliments!

  • i did gwyneebee for plus sizes i did the free 30 day trial last summer 3 outfits out at a time, you had to pick 8 or ten items in your closet and they would randomly ship what was in the warehouse in your size to you, you had the option to email them and ask them to prioritize something you really wanted sent to you. there was this one dress i was obbessing over, well it was so popular they did not have any sizes in stock of it to send out, some of the stuff i picked out was ill fitting and some of it fit amazing, this place also gave you the option to purchase the item, i wanted to buy this one dress but communication was lacking and the never got back to me so i cancelled when my trial was up.

    like rent the runway they check all items coming and going out for stains rips and tears if its has damage that can be fixed like a wash or dry clean they do it if its not fixable they will take it off the rack.
  • @rosebubbly Thanks! I'm a little obsessed now lol.

    @hyechica81 good to know!
  • This is good to know--my friend is doing a full-on black tie affair wedding next summer and I think I'll use this to get a gown. (Sadly my lifestyle does not require me to own a gown).

  • I wish I heard of this months ago! So many wasted dresses I will never wear again. :*( Good luck on your search!! The only gown I own is big, white, and probably a little inappropriate lol.
  • I've actually used them multiple times this spring/summer for weddings!  I'm tired of buying nice dresses and only wearing them once.  One good thing to know is if you get your dresses and neither of them fit contact RTR and they will overnight you a back-up for free!!

  • First dress came in this weekend for my shower. It was a little worn like some mentioned, but I was really happy with it overall. :)
