Registering...

where did you do it?
any advice... pro's con's?
I need to do it ASAP and am not sure where to register.

Re: Registering...

  • We registered at Macy's and BBB.  If you have a Macy's charge card, you get a bonus gift card from them amounting to 5% on gifts purchased from your registry and 10% on anything you charge.  That helped us pick up a couple of things to complete our registry.  BBB has completion parties a few times a year - 20% off your total purchase (and you can get things off registry, too).

We also looked at Crate and Barrel and Williams Sonoma, but decided to stick to 2 places.  Part of our consideration was where guests lived and what stores were in ther hometowns (for those that weren't so internet savvy and wanted to physically purchase a gift) and making sure we had a wide range of price points.

  • At first we were going to register at BB&B and Macy's. However, H and I went to Macy's in Chicago and were treated super bad. I ended up getting fed up with the whole thing and went to BB&B. I was going to just do BB&B but heard through the grapevines that since so many people lived in small towns without a BB&B, I did Target too. It ended up that almost everyone in our area did the Target one. The BB&B one was only used by people flying in out of state.

I would recommend really thinking about your guest and what is in their area. Macy's was really out of the questions from the beginning and I wish I would have thought more about that.... then I might not have had issues with Macy's.

  • I agree with PP, make sure whatever stores you chose are accessable to your guests. All of our guests live in medium to large metro areas, so we were able to chose just BB&B. I really enjoy targets products, however I learned about some of their return policies being unfriendly. I have heard nothing but great things about BB&B AND they offer complemetary gift wrapping for guests which I have enjoyed when going to other people's weddings.

  • We haven't done ours yet, but for the same reasons as pp said, we are going with Target and BBB. Most convenient for most of the guests. Some of his family who like up north in the middle of nowhere will have to figure it out. (Or maybe that'll encourage a few to give money since we could use that too!)

  • I think it depends on what you are looking for!
We did Target for more of the home stuff, Fleet Farm for the outdoorsy stuff, and Home Depot for tools and whatnot.
  • We are just registering on Amazon. This is for a couple of reasons:

-I love that people can buy your gift anywhere - even at the local Target but check it off on the Amazon site.
-You can register for gifts on any site (Crate and Barrel, BBB, or anywhere) by using a speciall add to registry button that drops that item onto Amazon's list. It also redirects you to their site from the Amazon site if you want to buy it.
-We are living in Arizona and wedding in Wisconsin, so this also is encouraging our guests to send it to us because I have no idea how to get them home otherwise!!

Most of our guests, however are internet savy, many from all over the country. It doesn't make sense for everyone!
