4'11" Bride to be - Designer recommendations

Calling all petite brides - any recommendations for a designer than caters to the petite set? About to start dress shopping this week, and interested in narrowing the search to designers who may specialize in this area. Thanks, and happy planning.

Re: 4'11" Bride to be - Designer recommendations

  • You should find a designer that does hollow to hem measurements.  This will allow them to make any dress that is specific to your measurements.  So if you love a mermaid dress, instead of hemming the bottom and then the proportions looking strange, they will basically redesign the dress to your measurements so that the proportions of the dress will be correct.  The only bad thing about hollow to hem measurements is that you need to pretty much know what shoes (or at least heel height) you are going to wear.

I know that Casablanca does hollow to hem and also Stephen Yearick.  You can also look at David's Bridal because they offer petite sizes as does J Crew.

  • Ditto Maggie on the Hallow to Hem measurements.  I do know that Demetrios bridal offers that type of sizing too.  They are available at the Macy's Bridal Salons.
  • I am 5'1 to 5'3 ish? and 105 lbs so I am hoping that I find a dress that fits well at Davids Bridal.

  • your best bet is to go to the salons ask the consultants to pull things that will work with your body type and height. a good consultant can make almost any dress look good on you. if the bottom has a ton of detail scatter all over you might loose some of that in the cutting and hemming process so make sure to ask if any details will get lost
  • Also, don't forget that a dress that is too long doesn't have to be hemmed. By taking up at the waist, you can preserve the details at the bottom.
  • I am only 5'. I ordered a regular length gown. I had 4 inch heels. My dress did not quite a bit of hemming so I made sure that dresses I tried in either did not have detail on the bottom that would be lost or could be hemmed at the waist.
Fwiw my dress was a pronovias.

  • Thank you so much for all the tips. My first appointment is on Friday at a local salon. Fingers crossed! Good luck to all of you.
