Re: Boston

  • For some reason, my text isn't showing up but what I said above is "I use to work on Summer St and was visiting some old coworkers and went there. The food and drinks were good but expensive."
  • @jenna8984 My sister has been to Wahlburgers, I have not but would like to try it. I think she said it was pretty good. Where is Yankee Lobster? If we want lobster we usually go to Stromberg's Black Lobster in Salem or Woodman's in Essex. My husband loves the roast beef 3 way - mayo, cheese and some special not really kinda sorta bbq sauce. Each place has their own version.
Northern Ave in Boston. I don't know, I googled it because I saw it on Food Network and it looked amazing lol. Since I live way out in the Woo I normally go to seafood places around here like Ronnies and Clam Box.

  • I agree with everything @Phira said. Also check out the NEY thread because it had many great options. I had Walhburgers last weekend. If you go early there is not much wait. We got there at 11:30-11:45 on Sunday morning and it was full but no wait. Food is good but nothing life changing. You have to try the Tater-tots with the "Walh-Sauce" YUM.

  • Not from Boston, but I have to go up there once or twice a year for medical reasons, and we've definitely found a few things we love. I don't get to do much because I'm usually spending time at the hospital doing hospitaly stuff, but we've done some.

Love the Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall area, and the Freedom Walk (and everything along it). Museum of Fine Art and Mary Baker Eddy house are on our list too, as well as Boston Ballet. We did a really touristy hop on/off tour our first time there that helped us get our bearings and decide what we wanted to see first, second, etc. And, it was a really good overview of the city.

There's a yummy Italian place in Beacon Hill called Antonio's that we always make sure to go to when we're in town.  Oklahoma Italian just isn't the same as real Boston Italian, lol. It's tiny and family run (and right across the street from the hotel and hospital) and just good. We don't have any other must-go places but this one. We try new ones but Antonio's is a given.

Ditto everything Phira said. I love clam chowder but I've found better clam chowder in the cape or in Connecticut than in Boston.

Do a duck tour! They're a lot of fun and you learn little things about the city. Also the prudential center 50 th floor ( 2 floors below top of the hub) has a 360 view of the city where you get a headset and it will tell you about different areas of the city that you can see.

Also go to Modern pastry not mikes pastry. Mike's is way too touristy.

@huskypuppy14 Ahhh I forgot about Duck Tours! There are also trolley tours, which are also pretty fun. And yeah, Modern is really great. I like them better than Mike's. Mike's is great, but it's not worth the line. Modern is.

I just came home from Top of the Hub (slightly buzzed, wheee). It's pricey, but it's gorgeous. And I can say from very, very, very recent experience that they make some delicious cocktails.

Their cookies are tasty too. We go there for drinks and cookies!

  • Top of the Hub is where I got my ring. Fond memories!
  • I just moved to Maine about 2 years ago before that I was in Boston area for 20 years.  You really can't go wrong in the North End - Modern is my favorite for pastries.  But I found a little gem called Pomodoro (319 Hanover Street) on one of my last trips back - it is so good.  Many of the other suggestions are great as well.  Eastern Standard, E'spalier, Rowes Wharf.  You have to go to Faneuil Hall it is especially fun on a weekend for people watching.

    Have a great trip!

@NYCMercedes That's so awesome! It's where we went for our engagement dinner!

@ShellD13 I can't really recommend Pomodoro :\ The North End location (Hanover Street) is notorious for strangely bad service, and the Brookline location is disgusting. I'm also irritated that you can easily spend $100 on dinner there and they don't take credit cards.

  • @Phira -  Good to know.  FI and I very much enjoyed our meal and I was a waitress once upon a time so bad service typically catches my attention.  They must have been having a good day.  I've never been to the Brookline location either.  Oh well.

@ShellD13 I hear you (I worked retail and tend to be more attentive when I'm around sales associates). The Hanover location has great reviews; I think it's mostly the owner who's obnoxious.
