2 CATERERS????

Hello,

Next year I plan to get married in the Atlanta area. Tentatively in Wooodstock, but could change. I am from Detroit, and my fiance is from Houma, LA and is in love with crawfish so we are trying to bring some of home into our wedding with a crawfish boil. We are thinking of having about 150 people, but only about 40- 70 (tentatively) of them will be eating the crawfish. While the rest will probably opt for something else. The rest will prefer the "classic stuff" like buffet beef (blah). However, there aren't any caterers that I've come across that offer crawfish and beef. So I've been throwing around the idea of having two caterers. The crawfish caterer is not all that expensive. Also, if I only have to pay for beef (blah) for about 50 people at $22 a pop. It won't be as bad for beef for 150. Anybody ever heard of such a crazy idea? HELP!

Re: 2 CATERERS????

  • You will need to see if the 2 caterers will work at the same event or if either of them have exclusivity clauses in their contract. What exactly is "buffet beef"? And if you find it so blah, why the heck would you serve it? Your should hire a caterer that serves amazing food.
  • I have to say, the beef tenderloin at our wedding was ridiculously delicious. Like, aunts mentioning it to me weeks later delicious. Could the crawfish caterer do something like a pasta dish or a chicken dish, or even shrimp or salmon as a "crowd pleaser" option?

  •  I don't see a problem with having 2 caterers, as long as they'll agree to work together. Do be prepared though, for guests to r.s.v.p to *all* beef, or if there's the option, to both. You never know, and definitely want to be prepared to have enough food, and be able to afford it as well. (As I'm sensing you're hoping for less beef, as it's more expensive). Personally, I'd go for the beef, and would not even try the crawfish. My H on the other hand, would likely do the same, or with the option, have both.

Also, if you don't like beef, why not do chicken? Or something you prefer as a meat? We had chicken at our wedding, and it was amazing. I definitely wouldn't opt for something I didn't like.

In addition to all of the great food ideas above, please keep on mind that crawfish can get messy. A boil consists of crawfish and the sides boiled and dumped on the newspaper lined table. Guests peel the crawfish themselves, and it's messy. Delicious, but messy.. If you want to give a nod to FI's background (I'm from NOLA and have family in Houma, so yay!) why not have a great Crawfish Étouffée or seafood gumbo. You could also do Jambalaya with alligator and andouille sausage.
