Destination Weddings Discussions

Destinationweddings.com

My fiancé and I are getting married in Mexico next year. We both work for the same company and it's a very demanding job. I also have another part time job, and we are in the process of selling two houses and building another one. The last thing we want to do is worry about the little details of the wedding. This is my second wedding but his first so I'm leaving all decisions up to him. We decided to go with destinationweddings.com but he isn't exactly sure what benefits they actually have for us if they are just a travel agent. Any good experiences or advice? He feels that the only perks we would get would be at the expense of our guests. Any advice would be great!

I have found that if you use a travel agent, they are able to get you perks like discounted room rates for doing a group booking, room upgrades for the bride/groom, "free" rooms (i.e. if you book 10 rooms, the 11th is free), other free things (like my package comes with a complimentary cocktail hour)... best of all they spare you the headache of trying to organize all the guests who have already booked!

just want to add the perks vary by resort... travel agents can also help you narrow down resorts for you based on your preferences
  • Yah I think you are getting more perks from the actual resort than the travel agent. All they are going to do is organize your guests, give you a group discount and like the other bride said a free room for so many booked. We are going with TravelZap and we get every 6th room free. Other than that most of the perks and organization comes from the resort. Good luck! Where in Mexico are you getting married?
  • I started to use Destinationweddings.com and my rep was really unresponsive.  It would take him at least a week to return my emails, and they would only be 1-liners (completely ignoring my questions).  We moved to a different wedding travel agency and it's been awesome.
  • That's helpful- we have a conference call with her tomorrow to sort it out. The wedding in Rivera Maya and the hotel sent us a ton of information too. So much to read!!! :)
  • Im booking through Beach Bum Vacations ,and Steve has been absoultely a joy! Steve has been always  attentive, answers e-mails promptly, and very informative.  Im getting married at Breathless Resorts and my guest are staying there as well. So when looking for an agent, do research, and referrals are good too. Good luck!
  • I have worked with my TA from destination weddings for over 4 years. She is helpful and very professional. Whenever I email her with a question or concern she responds within 48 hours (including weekends). She's very thorough and they price match any quote.
