Apartment photos!

We signed our lease contract on saturday and I took some pictures! Enjoy!

Ps. i am having trouble visualizing colors and decor! We have our bedroom and bathroom things set. Any advice is very welcome!! :)

Re: Apartment photos!

  • That is some snazzy tile. Lol.

It's funny to see the things that other tenants did that probably thought "wow this is AMAZING" and I look at it and I'm like "what were you THINKING?!"

It looks spacious though! Or maybe just the wonders of corner shots. ;P
  • I think some patterned rugs would help. Maybe just in the living room. The tile looks so cold.  A modern pattern. Window treatments maybe.  Those vertical blinds make it look like a hotel room in my opinion. I would quickly cover them with something even if its just shears.  It certainly  needs some personal touches to warm it up,   I think lamps are nice too.   I hate overhead lighting.  Have fun decorating!
  • Yay, have fun moving in and decorating!

I would definitely put a rug in the living room.  This is a furnished rental, right?  So you are working with all the furniture that's in there already?

  • I agree some rugs are needed.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Looks great! I definitely agree with getting some area rugs.
  •  Congrats on the new place! Area rugs, and some paint for sure. Maybe a few wall hangings as well? I'd personally change the blinds, but if you're just renting, (and window coverings can get pricey), then it may not be worth it.

I'd like to know why they chose those tiles. Unless they were on some freak sale, and they *needed* new flooring? Although, if the building's owned by a company or something, they generally do just throw down flooring that can be replaced at a low price point, if destroyed by tenants, etc. That would make more sense for sure. Nothing a few area rugs can't fix!

  • JMalettas I think the tiles are there because if I'm not mistaken, the OP is from Puerto Rico. A lot of the houses/apartments tend to have tiles. My family is Dominican, and that is pretty much what the houses out there look like. Same with Miami, I had my aunt, grandma, grandpa, and still have a cousin there, and they ALL had similar tiles. I don't know if it is the style, or if it has to do with the weather. I always thought that since it rains a lot in those climates, tile would be better than carpeting or wooden floors.

I would say maybe add some paintings/wall decorations. And pictures! I love hanging pictures up. And maybe a really bright wall, like an accent wall. I think accent walls change the overall look of a place depending on what look you're going for.

Congrats on the new apartment, and have fun decorating!! I need to decorate a bit more in our place.

It's so cute! I would add lots of color and fresh paint.

  • I don't know if I care for the yellow sink and toilet. I definitely like the apartment otherwise though. I love moving to new places and getting my stuff all set up again! Except for the amount of time it can consume.

  • Yay! I remember the feeling of utter excitement of moving into our first apartment. It was little, but nice. And very easy to clean, and keep clean. I have never seen a yellow sink or toilet before, but very retro lol! My BIL has a greenish toilet so maybe that is in now?

  • What a cute place! I love the little balcony area.

Just speaking from personal preference - I'd probably opt for some more neutral wall colors and dress it up with decor.

  • @JennyColada It is pretty spacious. yea some of the things are like wtf where you  thinking?!!

@ktjanesmom if by cold you mean the apartment will be cold, haha no!! I live in Puerto Rico and I am moving to the southern area of the island so its super hot here, hence tiles make things more comfy in that sense. We are buying some living room tables on Friday and once we have that in the apt we will look for a rug that matches the colors/style we go with for that area. we found some pretty lamps in clearance at BBB so we will see. I have been browsing in stores to see what things we might like. OMG yes! I hate those blinds, they are going away ASAP!

  • @JCBride2015 yes it is furnished but we asked for some things to be taken away because we are bringing them from our homes.

@JMalettas We have some art we have bought on trips that we will be putting up and we are thinking of color schemes for each room. The easiest is our bedroom since we have out bed set and we'll be using those colors. I actually don't hate the tile (I have seen far far worse around here) and I am used to it since my house has white tiles. Tiles are better at keeping cold and in this horrible heat it is a blessing.

  • @pinkcow13 I just read your post and you nailed it with the tile explanation! haha it is for the climate and because it is the norm. I love hanging up pictures! I have to convince FI to let me buy/put up those collage thingies for pictures haha. I dont know if to use the small or big wall for accent.

futuremrsk515 Its an old building and apparently yellow, green and blue bathroom things were in style in the 70-80s (a lot of the buildings in the area have them, so did/does my grandmother's house). I dont love them but it is not a big deal. plus we have colorful bathroom decor so hopefully we can minimize their presence.

  • MissMaeisbeforeJune I love the view and the breeze that comes through the balcony! it is lovely! We want cream/light brown walls and probably orange/yellow decor but we have to see what happens.

@all The landlord is pretty lenient so if we find new furniture it is possible that we may be able to work something out with him. We have a super tight budget so we will see what happens with time. I am very excited and so is FI and on July 1st we start the moving process (painting and such first).

    Thank you ladies!

  •  @JaniV123 - Totally didn't even think of the heat/flooring factor! Come to think of it, any "hot" trips we've taken, (Costa Rica, Dominican, etc), it's all been tiled floors. We're from Canada, and a part that we're lucky to get 2-3 warm/hot months, so it's definitely not something I think of first! :P
