Alterations Timing - Advice?

So I had my first fitting last night - the first time I saw my dress since I bought it in October!  It was a great experience. The seamstress is very seasoned and I trust in her ability.

Since I ordered the dress in October,  I've lost a dress size and my dress swam on me last night. My goal weight would put me down another dress size. So here is the question.

My wedding is in mid-September. My next fitting is july 20th. The seamstress said she would not change the alterations quote she gave me for any weight that I lose between now and that fitting; however if I continue to lose significant weight after that fitting, she would have to readjust the price, since it would mean a second round of physical alterations for her (right now the dress is just pinned).

In your collective experience, do you think it's best that I push this next appointment out another 2 weeks? It won't be an issue with timing in terms of the seamstress being able to physically complete the alterations (will call to confirm this today), and it would give me some more time. I figure by August, I'll be in maintenance mode with my diet and there won't be any drastic alterations needed.

Can anyone think of any reasons I shouldn't push it out two weeks, as long as the shop confirms it won't be an issue in terms of their workload?

Thanks in advance everyone :)

Re: Alterations Timing - Advice?

  • I would call the seamstress to see if schedule wise it would work for her. If her schedule is open enough to where you can come two weeks later and she can promise that your alterations will be one in time no harm in doing it.
  • I agree on calling the seamstress.  I would ask her when the latest date she would be comfortable doing alterations.
