Clean the ring

Ladies, I am about to go on vaca and I want my ring to shine. I was looking at some websites and I'm scared to clean it with random chemicals and what not. How do you ladies keep your rings shining like stars? Thanks in advance :)

The only thing I trust to do with my ring (diamond and white gold) on my own is use the cleaner FI got from the jeweler (I'm sure you could get anywhere) and submerge it in there, brush with the brush and then use my ultrasonic machine (Amazon- LOVE it).  I always use distilled water because our tap water is pretty hard.  Otherwise, it gets professionally cleaned.

I never wear it while showering, doing dishes, messy cooking, doing my hair, working out, etc...

    Edited to make sense... maybe...

  • I use the Connoisseur Jewelry Cleaner, about once a month.

I take it off at night and don't put it on until after lotioning up in the morning. It comes off when I'm cleaning.
  • I also just use the solution that the jewelry store gave us. I've seen some concoctions on Pinterest but I wouldn't dare use them, but I'm weird like that.
  • Stop by a jeweler. Most places will do it for free. I know we do at my store (which is a family-owned place, and that may make a difference). You can always call first and ask.

Assuming your ring is gold with diamond or another hard stone like ruby, sapphire, or moissanite, you can use a very soft toothbrush and a plain mild soap with water. You will probably want to do this in a bowl so as not to drop your ring down the drain and/or in case you lose a stone in the process--rare, but it happens. Rinse with hot water (I find it dries cleaner) and dry thoroughly with a towel before putting them back on.

  •  I'd think the majority of jewellers will clean your ring for free. The company my H purchased mine from does it for free, and I've had friends go in even, and they've cleaned their rings, (from other stores even), for free. Really, unless you're going there weekly with a container of stuff to be cleaned, most places will do it to get your business next time.

  • I'd stop into a jewelry store. As PPs said, most places do it for free.
  • I don't have my ring yet, but I have a diamond and gold pendant that I just cleaned last week with the Connoisseur cleaner that I borrowed from my mom and MAN did it sparkle!  I didn't remember it was so pretty ;-)

Buy ring cleaner from a jewelry store.

  • I just swish it around in a little dish with dish soap and warm water, let it soak, give the stones a little scrub with a soft toothbrush, rinse and let air dry. I also take it off to shower and to use any kind of lotion, makeup or hair spray.

  • I get it cleaned professionally every six months. In between, I sometimes scrub it under warm water with a sotf nail brush.
  • Can you stop by the jeweler where you bought it? I've been asked to bring mine in every six months to get the setting checked and have it cleaned, which the jeweler does for free and it doesn't take more than 10 minutes. They can also sell you ring cleaner so that you can get the same effect at home.
