Soo pissed at this jerk

I am really mad. One of my good friends was supposed to get married today. I took the day off work for it and ended up working anyway. Why? Because her jerk of an ex decided to end it at the altar.... Seriously? Why not tell her before. He said he's been feeling like it was over between them since before the engagement but thought that would bring the spark back and didn't know how to tell her he wasn't happy.... Ummm. I am sure any time before her walking down the aisle would have been a good time.....

    In front of everyone? I thought that cowardly shit only happened in movies. :(

    Anyone who does that is probably a stupid asshole, so she dodged a bullet.
    @larrygaga

    Yes in front of everyone. I agree she dogged a bullet but I can't help but want to smack the sh*t out of him
  • Holy shit. I didn't realize anybody actually did that in real life. What a jerk!!!!!

    @Simply Fated

    She's doing better than before but still not that good. So far she has broken dishes, smashed pictures, screamed and cried while sitting on the floor

    There is no reason to be that cruel. Ever.

    I couldn't agree more. Did she actually walk down the aisle? Good fucking grief.
  • What is the point? Why wait till THAT DAY. What is wrong with people?!

  • Two of my friends have had engagements called off in particularly cruel ways.  One girl left her Fi while he was away on a business trip: just packed all her stuff up and he came home to an empty house.  The other dumped him through her mom because she wouldn't even talk to him.  This was when he showed up to pick her up for their engagement party in two days.  His mom had ordered all the catering and invitations were out, so his mom had to call everyone and say the wedding was off.  But the food was already ordered, so all the guys pigged out and then got the dumped-former-Fi good and drunk that night.  Now both guys have found much better partners, and one is engaged again.

    I thought those stories were bad.  But nothing tops this!  Did she actually walk down the aisle?  Did they start saying vows?  I guess my biggest question is whether the jerk actually planned it, or whether he was just overwhelmed in the moment and realized he couldn't go through with it.  The second one is terrible but at least a little understandable.  The first is just despicable.

  • That's horrible. I feel that there has to be more, though. I would think that unless you were some cruel sociopath you at least care for the person you are no longer in love with. So you would break off the engagement at any point prior to the wedding. But to do it once the girl walked down the aisle? That seems unneccessarily cruel.

  • That's unbelievable.

    He did her a favor. No person deserves to be stuck with a piece of human waste like that.

    That's what I've been wondering as well. Did he hope to get a viral video out of it? I find it hard to believe that he didn't realize the seriousness of the commitment until they were at the alter.

    Stuck in the box:

    That's up there with my friend's husband who went through buying a new house and having a second child thinking it would "fix" things.  It didn't and there is a lot more drama to that story.

    Moral of the story:  The only thing that has a chance of "fixing" it is sitting down, facing your issues, and trying to find a way to work through them.  Possibly with the assistance of a licensed therapist.

    @SapphireCounselor

    His parents (who paid for it all) basically ran away as fast as the could. The other guests were quiet for a minute or so before beginning to surround her and try and console her
