Name Change...Can I got to the DMV first?!?

I'm hoping some of you already married ladies can help me.

H picked up our marriage certificate last night.  The DMV's late night is tonight.  Can I go there before Social Security?  (Social Security office is open till 4 but I won't be able to get there till next week)

Just trying to get the ball rolling.

    I believe you have to have some sort of government issued mail in order to back your name change. I had my new SS card, but I had planned on using my federal loan statement if that hadn't arrived.

    I was able to use my marriage certificate and a bill with my new name and address and that worked!
