What silly thing have you gotten for your wedding?

We're on a relatively tight wedding budget. I'm ok with that. Now, however, I'm getting hung up on some of the smaller unnecessary touches. So far, I'm thinking:

1. Bathroom box (or whatever they're called). I can do this on the super-cheap with couponing and baskets that I already own. But still unnecessary.
2. I want personalized cocktail napkins. I'll mix them with plain white but somehow these sound great.
3. "I Do" stickers for my shoes.

I can do all of these things for under $100 so none of this will be a hardship. It does leave me wondering:

What wedding-related things are you having fun "wasting" money on?

Re: What silly thing have you gotten for your wedding?

  • I bought "I Do" stickers last year when we first got engaged!

No other silly touches yet.  Our whole wedding is a little OTT honestly, and I'm having some second thoughts about that.  I feel already like we're being silly throwing such a huge event.

But I will probably make bathroom baskets.  I always appreciate them as a guest, and they won't be expensive.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Bathroom baskets are something I have never really understood.

  • I wasted money on hand stamping cocktail napkins... H & I ended up using them at our house for like four months. Between the napkins ($10), the stamps ($25) and the ink ($10) it was such a waste.

I didn't get one, but I think personalized hangers are such a waste.

People used the shit out of ours - it was almost all gone by the end of the night.

  • Our favors are ridiculous. My mom found these mini-teacups that hold votive candles. FI and I both love tea (our centerpieces involve vintage teacups) so my mom just went ahead and bought them. I'm sure nobody will love them as much as I do but I really don't care.

@sarahufl I have only made use of a bathroom basket once, but I was obliterated and could not find a hair tie in my purse. The hosts were kind enough to put a whole brand-new package of them in the bathroom basket and I was so grateful I wanted to cry. I was that drunk lol
I appreciate this because I can see it playing out in my head. Drunk beethery, stumbling into the bathroom and realizing "OH SHIT! I CAN'T FIND MY HAIR TIE!" Cue spotlight on bathroom basket and glorious music.

I don't think I've bought anything silly yet, but I anticipate I will. Probably dumb neon sunglasses for the reception, because that's how I roll.

  • We're going to make welcome bags- they're a silly addition IMO.

I haven't gotten any other really silly things.  Sometimes I think throwing this fairly OTT party is completely ridiculous; but then I remember how excited I am to party with my friends and family in addition to getting to marry FI!

  • I bought one of those silly hangers with the wire name on them for my dress. I don't know why but I really wanted one for the pictures and I'm still really excited about it.

I received one as a gift and I really liked it. It is useful at least, my dress is still hanging on it!

  • My brother and SIL are still using their personalized cocktail napkins a year and half later!
I'd do the I do stickers and skip the other two :-p

I had to have mini-american flags for everyone - you know to wave as we entered the room - hello photo op! We forgot to have the DJ announce it, or he forgot that we told him. So I have enough to hand out at the parade the next two Independence Days.
The awesome silly thing I go was indoor sparklers for our entrance - ya know the one wight he min-flags. That was grey photo op.

After I tore my calk 8 weeks before the wedding I canned most of the silly stuff. If it didn't have to happen, it didn't.
    ~xoxo~

  • I mean, that stamp that I stamped on my cookie bags was like 40 bucks. my FSIL did bathroom baskets the day before cause we were in Target and I was all, "Oh, maybe I should do these..."  Our card box was a Tardis Trashcan that cost like, 80 bucks.

And H decided we had to have nerdy stuff surrounding our cake tables, so we've got some mini portal turrets, and larger stuffed turret, some random doctor who stuff including the pocket watch, and a companion cube cookie jar.

  • I forgot about the hangers. I did it too.

One of my BMs saw them on Pinterest and talked about how cute they were and how she wished she knew about them when she got married. So I bought the pre-made wire on Etsy and am wrapping them on some Ikea wooden hangers. I got one in each BM's name and am spending about $5 on each. Just for shits and giggles.

I've spent $120 on my cake toppers... and I swore I would never be that bride. BUT we got custom made dogs (look identical to ours) and a cursive B with blue glitter on it... and the one dog broke, so I bought another one...We are also having 150 dozens of cookies at the wedding reception (I'm from Pittsburgh- Gotta have the cookie table!!)

ETA: The cookies cost more than my cake and 2/3rds of our chocolate fountain...

  • We went kind of over-the-top with our favors. We canned our own jam in mini Ball jars. That would have been that, but then my coworker found these adorable little wooden spoons, so of course I had to buy those. And then pink baker's twine. And cheesy labels that said "Spread the love." But they were so fucking cute!

And a month or two before the wedding, I decided I wanted to make Yay! flags. They didn't cost much and guests loved them.

Please elaborate and/or post a pic. Also, I demand some spread the love jam!

I'm still trying to figure out what to do for the bags at our cookie bar. I had no idea that personalized paper take-away bags would be so expensive :p

  • Our wedding is still a while out, but I think I would like to do the bathroom baskets. I think it's nice to have, you never know when you might need a mint, tampon, or a hair band!

To be fair, the stamp would have only been 20, but I rushed it to make sure i got it in time for the wedding. Bags I ordered off of amazon were 10 bucks for a 100

  • I would actually really like to do a bathroom basket, but we won't have exclusive use of the restaurant's restrooms during the reception.  No hair ties for strangers!!

I haven't given in to any "silly" stuff yet, but felt a bit wedding-shamed by my coworker who started telling me about all the personal touches they're having at their wedding.  All our money's going to food and booze so I'm not yet ready to look at the little things.  :(

  • I did bathroom baskets because our bathrooms come with nothing - not even hand soap. So yea, full-on baskets may not be completely necessary, but Walmart had tons of stuff for under a buck so not that big of an expense.

I'm putting together welcome bags at the hotel too. Not absolutely necessary, but a small way to thank our guests for booking enough rooms that we didn't have to pay for any unused ones in the block!

Same here. Our venue is a resort. I'm not supplying free stuff for strangers!

It was close to that. I basically shoved my whole face into my purse (damn black lining and black hair ties!) and was like I WANNA PUT MY HAIR UP IM SWEATEHHHHHHHHH and then half-cartwheeled into the bathroom and realized there is a god among us mortals and it is whoever put the hair ties in the bathroom basket.

Maybe I will set one up.

Our topper is pretty silly. I've posted it before- it's two ferrets. It was also $100, which I otherwise would not have spent on a topper and probably would've skipped it entirely, but FI and I couldn't resist the ferrets.

I went pretty over the top with the DIY. I definitely bought unnecessary things in the process of making invitations and flowers.

I also was at a DSW the other day and saw knee socks with sloths on them and had to have them. I think I'll give a pair to a couple of my bridesmaids and probably wear the other pair. I'm wearing boots and a big poofy dress so no one has to know but me.

Didn't realize bathroom baskets had such a large fan base. Maybe I will re-think :)
