Hi JC! I am obvious ;)
  • People are so fucking stupid. So they get married for financial reasons, right? To save an additional $5K in their case. Yet, they are having a fake "Big Wedding" which will cost even more money! Why not just 1. Lower the wedding budget by 5K or 2. Just have the damn elopement and have that be it?

I hope the $5k they "saved" is worth it when their family and friends find out they've been lied to.

  • My mother is legally married to her wife. They had a super private ceremony (I say eloped but that's not right because we were there, but it was very unplanned) in California after prop 8 was overturned (like two weeks after). So as far as the federal government is concerned they're married, and all the states that allow same sex marriage also say they are married. However, they don't live in any of those states. My mom has a great job she loves. But they don't cover domestic partners on their health insurance plan. So my step-mom can't get covered under my mom's health insurance. So she pays out of pocket, and thanks to ACA can actually afford something now.

So fuck everyone who says "We have to get married for health insurance, we can't not have health insurance!" there are people who are married and still can't cover their partners because everyone has the same genitals and that makes crazy religious people really sad or some shit like that.

Also I went without health insurance for a long while because FI's work wouldn't cover me and we couldn't legally get married anyways. Her new job covers domestic partners for both same sex and opposite sex couples. Just have to prove you're living together and sign something saying you're in a romantic relationship.

You should make her aware of this… besides the fact that she's lying, she's minimizing JP weddings as not being "weddings"

I honestly think anyone who says they do it to save money is just saying that as an excuse because I refuse to believe anyone is that stupid.

    STUCK BOX

Please don't even respond if this is too personal, but has anyone ever told you that your mom marrying a girl had an influence on you and is why you are gay? I'm curious. Sorry for the blunt question but I legit never had the chance to someone who is gay who had a gay parent. I feel like stupid people would try to say something like that.

  • This article is quite offensive to me. For one, an elopement is a wedding. I wore a dress, said vows, exchanged rings, and signed the papers to make it legal. I l also did not keep it a secret once it was said and done. As far as cost, well, we spent more than the average cost of a wedding in the US on just the two of us. So, sure, you can save money, but it doesn't have to be that way!!!

People need to stop with these JOP/private weddings just to get what they want, when they want, and then cry later when it wasn't "good enough." An elopement is real and should be meaningful, except people are making a mockery of this special type of ceremony for their own kicks.

  • An employee at Kay said something similar to me. I bought a really cute ring for my little sister, and went in to get it sized. I mentioned that it was a bridesmaid gift for my sister, and the woman at Kay suggested I give all my bridesmaids the same type of jewelry. That's what she is doing for her August wedding.

Later, she said something about her "husband" and her roommate. I asked if she got married last August, assuming I had misunderstood before. She said that they got married, but their "wedding wedding" is coming up in August.
  • One of the "weddings" should be in italics, but I can't do it on my iPad.

You're doing great on there. Mostly my questions are: why would you lie to your loved ones?, and how is getting married for health insurance and thus saving $5000 and having a big "wedding" later any cheaper? They're still spending the money on this second wedding, which is probably more than $5000. Unless, of course, someone is paying for it for them, in which case the lying is especially disgusting.

I didn't even realize they were moderating comments-- Maybe because I already had a Discus account, mine are showing up right away.

Hopefully your comment makes it through!

The programming on this board adds a weird span style to the beginning of a quote sometimes. If you really want to, you can click the HTML button, copy everything in the [<span style: normal blahblah>] box, and then paste it in the space after the [</blockquote>] and before whatever you added. Then delete the original span style up at the top.
I don't know what kind of crack the programming is on that is adds weird stylesheet shit to everything. If anything, you'd think it would default to plain text :/I just fixed it in this post :)

  • @JCBride2015 when I went through the HTML on that comment, it showed up like 5 different times, so I had to really dig it out.

Another thing I've noticed is that the more I try to fix something WITHOUT going into HTML and just editing it, the worse it gets. It adds crazy styling shit all over the place.

Also, unsticking yourself from a box can usually be accomplished by going into HTML, and writing whatever you have to say after the last [</blockquote>] of whatever you're quoting.

  • Yeah, their mobile site is pretty horrible. And if your comment hasn't been "approved" yet - I think that's because you have to have a Disqus account in order for it to show up immediately. I don't comment on their site much, but the content and tone of that particular post really rubbed me the wrong way. Of course, I was overly snarky in my reply which undoubtedly added to the defensiveness of other posters who had PPDs.
