Wedding Invitations & Paper

Parking on invites?

Minor problem and I need some suggestions. I totally forgot to mention the free valet parking I am providing for my guests on the invitations. I have already had them printed and am expecting them within the next week for my September wedding.

Any suggestions how to tastefully put this information out there for my guests? It is on our wedding website, however I know a lot of our family will not even know or try to go on there...

Re: Parking on invites?

  • Could you enclose a separate card with the information? Find something in the same color/weight and print them yourself.

  • This information shouldn't be on your invitation.  I would enclose a business size card with parking, and website information.  Vista print can di this cheaply.

  • Yeah that shouldn't have even been on there in the first place. I think you could even get away with not including it... guests should expect free parking at a hosted event. If they don't, it'll be a happy surprise for them when they get there.

  • I would throw that info in on a seperate piece of paper, maybe with directions to the venue?

@lolo883 They should assume free parking but one of the venues I looked at was a hotel in downtown, that doesn't have many parking options, other than street meters, so unless I told my guests the hotel offered free valet parking, they probably wouldn't even know what to do about where to leave their car.

Regardless of whether the hotel offers free valet, as your guest I would expect the host to cover the cost. Parking should always be free to the guest even if it's not "free" for everyone.

Many times when a bride says that she forgot to include something on her invite, I assume that she means that she forgot to include a card about parking or the hotel or something, not that she wants it printed directly onto the main invite.  Honestly, a lot of brides now a days look at the complete invite set as the invite, not just the piece of paper that says "we request the pleasure of your company, yadda, yadda, yadda..."

OP, I would just print up an extra enclosure card and include it with your invite.

Yeah we weren't going to put it on the actual invitation. I forgot to have it printed on the accommodations insert. Our invites were custom, so having the designer make an additional parking card and getting it to us on time is most likely out of the question. She has already assembled the invitations.  The venue is a downtown hotel, so parking is not great, hence why we did the valet. My mom wants to just throw a little slip of paper in the invitations that we print from home. I'm just not sure if people will perceive that as tacky.

Not at all.  I would go to a craft store and buy some card stock (something similar in thickness to your invite paper and then just design something in word that has a similar feel and look and print out a parking insert.  It won't be as fancy as your custom invite but I doubt anyone will really notice nor will they care.  They will just be happy that they know about the valet service you are providing.

I would definitely mention FREE on there just so people know. While guests shouldn't have to pay for anything, cash bars come up all of the time...so is it not out of the question that someone might have to pay for parking or try to skip the valet because they don't have cash (not realizing it is free)?

Edit: left out a word that changed the whole meaning.

  • We included an insert with our wedding website address on it.  On the website we included parking information and a map for guests.
