Taking a theme too far

I apologize if this has been posted and I missed it.

  • I just don't get doing this kind of thing.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

When did weddings become more about celebrating your fandom then celebrating your relationship? And we wonder why divorce rates are so high! People need to take this shit more seriously! A wedding is not a costume party! It is not a Comic Con! It isn't a celebration of what you love, but a celebration of WHO you love.

    rant over.

So like, not that I disagree that like cosplaying as something completely unrecognizable from yourself is inappropriate for a wedding, pretty sure us nerds aren't the entire reason for high divorce rates in the States.

You got some love from me. FI & I met at LARP (a long ass time ago) and apparently everyone thought for sure we'd be getting married in garb....with elf ears on.

  • Damn it. What if I want to get married at Comic Con?

I do have to scratch my head at the "non traditional" weddings are behind divorce. The geeks I know are not getting divorced. Usually I hear that as a reason to prohibit homosexual marriage, but if the divorce rate is over 50% and homosexual marriage is banned in something like 30 states - how the fuck can a prohibited action cause divorce? They aren't getting divorced because they can't marry.
  • People do say my H looks like Shrek...but I wouldn't have painted him or I green for the wedding...or EVER...

I would never cosplay at my wedding, but I don't think that this is at all related to the divorce rate. The people I know who have gotten divorced almost always went into their marriage without clear communication, or failed to communicate well when things got rough. If two people both love something enough that they'd want to cosplay it on their wedding day, that tells me that maybe they really are perfect for each other. If they talked about it and decided together that it suited them, then I can't use that as fuel to tell them their marriage isn't serious.
