Flower girl dress color

I'm starting my daughter's flower girl dress this weekend. I have the pattern in mind but I'm hung up on the color. It will be a bateau neck bodice with an lowish (she's 5 so not too low) back and a tule skirt.

I'm wearing ivory, groom/ groom's men/ ring bearer gray and bride's maids navy.

I'm not sure I want her to wear ivory too. Though
I dont mind her matching me (she looks just like a little me anyway) child mini brides weird me out. So I'm leaning towards navy since her brother is wearing gray like the guys. She will be more like a little bridesmaid.

Or two tone ivory and navy? Any thoughts? I'm probably over thinking this.

Re: Flower girl dress color

  • I prefer flower girls in colored dresses. Or better yet, patterned ones!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

I would put her in navy or grey.

  • Mine will be in either the bridesmaid color (aqua) or gold sparkles. I also dislike mini brides.

  • Another navy vote.

Could you maybe add a gray or ivory sash/bow as well if you don't want her to be too bridesmaidsey

  • Thabjs ladies!

She would love if I made her one with sequins or sparkles. It might be too fancy that way though, I'm going to consider that. Like maybe a sparkly gray or ivory sash on a navy dress. I'll just have to go to the fabric store this afternoon and see what speaks to me. I like the idea of a patterned dress
  • Oooh, sparkly sash! Yes!

  • I would do navy and a sash or navy and ivory.  I'm not a fan of mini brides either.
  • How about sky blue? It will look nice with navy and gray. Something about navy seems a bit old for a 5 year old to me. Or if you're carrying flowers, she could be wearing one of those colors to accent it a bit.
  • So I bought a navy shantung fabric as well as navy tule for an overlay for the skirt. It will be very mature in color and fabric but a sparkly sash and some sparkly little flats will take care of that I think!

I am so excited! I'm pretty sure it will be absolutely fab! I'll probably get a little AWish when it's done, just want to forwarn you all.

  • Yay! Sounds like you make some great choices. I think navy will be lovely.
  • Navy, and and Ivory sash sounds beautiful. Another reason I like Navy is because depending on the style of the dress and how much she grows, you had a little sweater and she had a cute holiday dress or a dresss that would work for another dress up occasion.
  • I vote for a color as well. I'm not a fan of the flower girls wearing white/ivory.
