Venue hasn't cashed my check yet?

I sent our signed contract and deposit check to our venue in mid-May. They received it and promptly sent me back a signed copy of the contract, but haven't cashed the check yet. After a few weeks I checked in with the venue, and the staff person said "yes we received your check, everything is set, I just haven't taken it to the bank yet." Now it's been over a month and they still haven't cashed it. Not a huge deal, but it's driving me crazy because my checkbooks aren't balancing. Is this normal? Is there some good reason for this that just hasn't occurred to me? Would it be rude for me to call and ask them to please process the check soon?

I don't think it would be out of line for you to follow up with them. I can't think of any good reason to have not deposited the check yet. I mean, logically you want to deposit checks ASAP after getting them to avoid losing them, right?

I would just make a note to myself like PaperPusher said. I also don't think it would be rude to call back and request that they take care of it soon. I'm sure they will understand your concern.
