Much needed release

edited June 2014 in Chit Chat
Today, I went kayaking for two hours.  It was really nice to get away, for a while.  I went by myself, and enjoyed some much needed time away from life.  I just soaked up the soothing sounds around me and the sunshine. It was amazing.  I need to tone my arms before the wedding, anyway.  I could have gone to the gym, but I could not handle being inside on such a lovely day. I love the summer.  Now, time to tackle the mountain of procrastination. Lol

  • That sounds so amazing! I envy you sooo much right now! I would love to do total outdoorsy stuff but it's kinda hard in the city. Idk about kayaking in the Hudson (awesome views but that water.... Yikes), and FI and I almost rode citibikes home on Sunday from the park, but when I found out they don't provide helmets it was a no go! Sounds like you had an awesome time! And yes, summer is the absolute BEST.

Fi really wants to do this, too.  Groupon is always advertising guided kayak tours.  It would probably be us and a bunch of tourists, but it sounds sort of fun.  As for the water, I think it's much better than it used to be.  Our neighborhood is right on the water and it never smells or anything.  I'd be much more worried about the larger boats out there.

Two hours? Wow! Are your hands all blistered today? I've been meaning to get workout gloves for kayaking because I always get the worst blisters.

I know what you mean about it being such a calming experience. I only ever go kayaking alone and it's always wonderful (especially at sunset). I need to get over my fear of creepy-crawlies that live in my kayak & go more often. It's a great work out, too!

  • Oh that sounds lovely.  Actually, I think I might copy you and do the same after work today.

  • I go kayaking almost every day. I follow the loon around the pond and relax.

That reminds me, I spilled a beer in mine yesterday and I need to rinse it out again before I go tonight.

I did the free kayaking in the Hudson once. It is nice, in theory- but you can't really go anywhere. Basically you can tool around in a little roped off area. Plus, you smell like river water when you are done. Let's do a Knottie NYC GTG and go kayak somewhere!

  • I developed small blisters, but they all ready went away. The first time i went kayaking, the blisters were really bad. Now, as long as I keep my hands dry, and in the same position on the oars, I am usually fine
  • I miss my kayak!! It stays about 3.5 hours away from me- but that means that it gets more use! Yesterday I did go biking, and today I'm working on my golfing!

Come up to Poughkeepsie and you can kayak in the Hudson!
